an amazing bushism (even for him)
I just finished reading hichens book titles God is Not Great. In it he describes a certain texas governor (theres no doubt who he means) was once asked what he thought a bout teaching the bible in spanish. His response (hold on tight here folks) "If English was good enough for Jesus its good enough for me". I like to think this is a joke but unfortunately it isnt; bush is stupid enough to have that. Spare us Oh Mighty Zeus!

4. omg - how stupid is that?
That is just unbelievable. I wonder how many other fundies out there think the same thing. No wonder they want to rewrite the Bible. Perhaps they will then make Jesus white and English speaking.

5. Jesus spoke Arimaican you dolts! USA, USA!
Just like we speak here in America. We speak Arimaican.

My God we're a stupid lot.

I often wonder how hard it must be for those people who come from England to learn our language.

12. You may laugh, but...
I once saw on a message board where a bunch of dumb Christians were beating the shit out of logic and reason to conclude that Jesus meant for the English King James Version to be the absolute final and perfect version of The Bible.

14. im a brit
and have lived here for 30 years. I can honestly say, without patriotic flag waving, that English is not spoken her only a derivative. It is full of fillers (im just followed by a grimace or gesture; you know no i dont know which is why im asking and so on). If you listen to our role models (superstars with some exceptions) they have troubles starting and finishing a grammatically correct sentence. We wont even discuss syntax. The frightening fact is that many people voted for bush because he was "just like them." They identified with the cretin.
Pardon while i wander off to slash my wrists.

8. Sorry but it wasn't Bush...
Comment is attributed to Miriam "Ma" Ferguson, first woman Governor of Texas. Took about 7 seconds to fact check.

9. Yes, I remember Ann Richards humorously attributing this quote to Ferguson.
It was on an episode of Bill Mahar's "Politically Incorrect" in the late 1990s. Ann attributed it to Miriam's husband, "Pa" Ferguson. From what I have read on the Internet this morning, the gag dates back to the late nineteenth century when there was a movement to update the phraseology of the King James' Bible. Back then it was said, "If the King's English was good enough for Saint Paul, then it is good enough for me!" It could be that preachers and other King James' loyalists would utter the comment in self-effacing jest. If anyone has uttered the statement in modern times, it was likely also done in jest. I think Hitchins has reported the an old gag just to make his book more entertaining.

I was written in such a vague manner and since Hichens despises bush with a passion i jumped to the conclusion he referring to bush. Sorry sorry but it is still and idiotic statement.
