I just finished reading hichens book titles God is Not Great. In it he describes a certain texas governor (theres no doubt who he means) was once asked what he thought a bout teaching the bible in spanish. His response (hold on tight here folks) "If English was good enough for Jesus its good enough for me". I like to think this is a joke but unfortunately it isnt; bush is stupid enough to have that. Spare us Oh Mighty Zeus!

and have lived here for 30 years. I can honestly say, without patriotic flag waving, that English is not spoken her only a derivative. It is full of fillers (im just followed by a grimace or gesture; you know no i dont know which is why im asking and so on). If you listen to our role models (superstars with some exceptions) they have troubles starting and finishing a grammatically correct sentence. We wont even discuss syntax. The frightening fact is that many people voted for bush because he was "just like them." They identified with the cretin.

9. Yes, I remember Ann Richards humorously attributing this quote to Ferguson.

It was on an episode of Bill Mahar's "Politically Incorrect" in the late 1990s. Ann attributed it to Miriam's husband, "Pa" Ferguson. From what I have read on the Internet this morning, the gag dates back to the late nineteenth century when there was a movement to update the phraseology of the King James' Bible. Back then it was said, "If the King's English was good enough for Saint Paul, then it is good enough for me!" It could be that preachers and other King James' loyalists would utter the comment in self-effacing jest. If anyone has uttered the statement in modern times, it was likely also done in jest. I think Hitchins has reported the an old gag just to make his book more entertaining.
