Fla. couple married 64 years dies a day apart

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. -- A couple who married shortly after World War II and stayed together 64 years has died a day apart.

Julius Stewart, 90, died at 2 a.m. Saturday in a Pinellas County Hospital. His wife, 92-year-old Angie, died at 11 p.m. Sunday.

Lee Stewart, the couple's son, said "they decided that they were meant to be together."

The couple met as children in New Orleans and were initially married to other people, but their first spouses died at young ages.

They are survived by two children, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

1. I have great-grandparents that were married longer than that and died
17 hours apart. Just shook everybody up.

5. since length of marriage is correlated with age...
...the longer two people are married the greater the chance of their dying at decreasing intervals.

It's still kind of romantic and all.

6. My Parents
have been married 70 years and I know one of them could not last without the other. They still kiss, hold hands and help each other in every way. They still live on their own. My mother jokingly says together they make a whole person.

7. In an age when everything is disposable, including most marriages...
Stuff like this really touches my heart and brings tears to my eyes.

My in-laws were married some 60 years when my FIL died, and my MIL lasted another 13...but every day, as we found out some time later, she never wanted to be here.

During the weeks it took for her to die, we constantly told her that her husband was on the other side waiting for her. She smiled and seemed comfortable with that...wondered though, how he would recognize her, since she was 13 years older than the last time they saw each other.

We put their wedding photo near her bed and told her that when she got to where he was, they would both look just like they did in that photo.

She seemed very happy with that.

and now I'm crying again
:(
