It seems to me to be the 800 pound gorilla in the room no one wants to talk about. I happen to feel its all about THEIR racism. And any of the anti-HCR mouthpieces Black or Brown? Anyone but OLD WHITE FOLKS bein bussed around to these public meetings? No. Who attends these tea parties? Not Black or Brown folks. (There is a old White folks Tea Party in Morristown NJ tomorrow).

I think they don't want to see public dollars going to help people of color, it's that simple.

2. Uh, yeah.
That is what killed it in 1948 (desegregating hospitals) and racism is definitely an underlying reason.
Why else would the 'illegal alien don't get none' have so much play?

Im sure they wouldn't give a damn if minorities suffer. But they aren't going to pay more to make it happen. The shitty healthcare system leads to a high cost per capita, and they pay and suffer as well for the crappy system.

Hate is all good for those people as long is it doesn't hurt one's own pocket book.

13. Profit and Power on the part of Big Pharma and Insurance companies..but the energy THEIR campaigns
are tapping into within the "teabaggers" and other rwnuts is based on racism and fear..of "the other",

8. In a way.
A big part of the opposition to state-funded healthcare is the notion that somebody who is "undeserving" or "lazy" will get the same healthcare as somebody who works hard and is a success. It's one of the uglier bits of human nature that we tend to encourage in America.

9. I heard that today on the ED Show, guy was saying how if people were unhappy
with their health care, get another job. It's all about personal responsibility, blah blah blah.

Which means no lazy non-whites need apply.

23. This is true.
I've even heard repukes in my own family say one of the reasons they didn't want HCR because lazy minorities and illegal aliens will benefit off of them.

10. I truly believe you are right.
It's the same sentiment that they expressed about welfare mothers, which was directed to minorities, evidenced by the remark made by President Reagan about "welfare queens in Cadillacs". They really feel that they are going to be paying for them, not actually benefitting themselves from such legislation.

11. I believe that racism is part of the story. There are folks who feel that it would only be the
poor, the brown, the black, the less fortunate of every ilk, that would benefit from health care reform, especially a "public Option". They absolutely refuse to be their brothers' keepers, and the repukes do all they can to appeal to and encourage this attitude.

There is no way to deny this. There is really no other logical or even illogical, explanation for the fire and fury that some of these people feel...

15. I think it's even more basic than that. It's cowardice.
Just like in grade school when the bully said "who do I beat up today?" The whiny cowards would always point at the weakest kid. "Beat him up".
They are happy when others are miserable because it isn't them. They are secretly (or not) happy when others are sick and rationalize that they dont need to help because the ones getting sick are ______________ (fill in the blank).
These are the same people that love Nancy Grace. If you get arrested then you are guilty. At least it isnt them. Why would support someone arrested, they must deserve it.
These are basically very sad, sick, selfish people. They go to church twice a year and think they are square with God.
I left out ignorant, and proud of it.

16. Not at all. Fewer people would 'volunteer' for the military if they could get healthcare
for pregnant girlfriends, etc. If you're a young guy with a pregnant girlfriend, this is your only route.

It's a vital part of the economic draft.

19. Great point, which means the White folks who squawk about the military
honor THEY have will be all pissed because the cannon fodder will stop volunteering......and then they won;t have all those Black and Brown people fighting THEIR wars.

24. Hispanics are under-represented in the military and black enlistment is down.
And when blacks join the Army, they do not choose infantry in the proportions that white recruits do.

20. HCR disempowers employers.
If an employee (and family) is dependent on the employer for health care and other benefits, he/she is likely to be far more obedient, submissive, willing to do anything to keep the job and disinclined to change jobs/employers, thus creating workforce stability and reducing training costs for the employer. Republicans typically "represent" employers. HCR will change all that and make employees far less dependent, leading to less management tyranny and more freedom!

Probably some racism, too, as seen surfacing in their vehement opposition to illegal immigrants being covered, i.e. "YOU LIE!"
