The Day the Music Died
I remember, vividly, the deaths of Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens. And, almost, Waylon jennings who gave up his sear ont eh ill fated plane. It was the day the music died - as the song says.

I had many other days like that: assassinations of JFK, MLK, RFK, John Lennon. Challenger explosion. Tet Offensive. Que Sahn. Nixon elected, then Reagan and the geniuses named Bush.

Today is another such day. The day that, for me, the Democratic Party died. The day health care reform became deform. The day Obama (no more "Mr." or "President" from me - screw this sad excuse for a leader) signed a bill to hide that Abu Gihrab pictures - just like Bush would have.

I am done. I had a small flicker of hope, that I would be wrong, and I could admit, shamefaced, that others knew better than I. But fuck no. I was, sadly, right. Like so many of us who get de-recced and flamed for speaking truth.

I didn't move away from my party, it moved away from me - to Hell.

Of course I will still call myself a democrat, and vote for the odd candidate or 2. But my gut knows the truth: this is the day the music of democracy died, once and for all, after a lingering illness.

16. "It" isn't hilarious. Your reaction to it is.
If you're old enough to remember when Buddy Holly died you're old enough to remember the 1968 Dem Convention.

Surely that was much worse.

Maybe the Party died that week.

The means it's now a Zombie Party.

23. Where do they come from? The STATE OF DELUSION.
You are not alone.
Meet the new boss, working for the same corporate bosses.
We're fucked, it is not your imagination, rather mental clarity.
Not everyone on DU has woken up yet.
Don't worry, they will.
It is inevitable as life gets worse, before it gets worse.

I have plenty of mental clarity.

I just don't go running around screaming that it's the end of the world.

Even if it is I feel fine.

Been fun while it lasted.

Guess it's time to buy some stuff on credit.

4. It's ironic. I've discussed with some longstanding republicans and they
feel similarly about their respective party moving away from them, following its own agenda.

I want someone who can wield power effectively, not just make good speeches. That's the problem we have right now.

14. say what?
Obama, for example, gave up being an activist the day he voted for FISA, despite his promises not to. No, we need to start electing DEMOCRATS - socialist and liberal. The "progressive" label has been co-opted.

15. Well, I guess I meant that we need to stop electing politicians with that activist mindset.
Obama's compulsive need for consensus is one of those activist things that does not work in politics, especially when you are trying to force through your agenda. Politics is a zero-sum game. There will be winners and losers. We just have to make sure our side (the Left) wins.

37. There are some reports that Chuck Biscuits may not be dead after all
Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 05:52 PM by spiritual_gunfighter

"Chuck and I have been somewhat estranged for a time, but this seems fishy. I am going to his home to get to the bottom of this, I will let you know one way or the other. If this is a hoax, I will pop Chuck in his beak. I am allowed. He is my little brother."

The investigation continues. At this point, I don't know whom to believe.]

Since this post went viral, however, several people (including former Danzig bassist Eerie Von and Chuck's brother Bob Montgomery) have openly questioned his death. All I can tell you is I've been communicating with two people since May I was always 99.999% sure were THE Chuck Biscuits and his wife from e-mail addresses bearing their names. They never asked me to wire money to a Nigerian prince or adopt their child, so I took it all at face value.

Chuck's wife is allegedly the one who has been sending out mass e-mails about Chuck's condition to family and friends; I didn't use her name below because I didn't know if she'd be comfortable with that and it didn't seem like a good time to bring it up, considering her husband was dying. I'm still not going to use her name on the same grounds.

Although I can't imagine why a former member of Danzig would want to fake his own death via the Internet, I know plenty of people who severely dislike me and would take any chance they could to play on my gullibility to make me look as stupid as possible (i.e. e-mail me for six months pretending to be a dying drummer I admire). If this is all a big fat lie, I'm sorry, but I promise I was duped just as hard as you.]

24. Many of the rotten things that Obama has failed to oppose (like the HC mandate)
were also championed (or at least accepted) by Hillary during the primary campaign.

With hind-sight it all looks very manipulated: We got a choice between two glass-ceiling-breaking candidates (liberals love that!) neither of whom was at all liberal.

The one real liberal was literally cut out of the picture (from one of the debates).

Clearly, we were not allowed to vote for anyone worthwhile.

25. What's Sad are the Moronic DU Posters
who come in here and ridicule you over your disappointment in your elected representatives.

Of course, these DUers are also the DUers who bitched and moaned about these very same decisions when they were being made by Republicans.

These are what I call Political Party fans. They are borderline-retarded. They don't have any ideals or principles. They just root for the home team, unconditionally.

And idiots like these are just as likely to enable fascism as the Political Party Fans of the Republicans.

It may come across that we're overly optimistic but the alternative is still far worse and we're not giving up till the final breath, because it's the only way it's going to change. Hey, if Republicans were doing the right thing more times than Democrats I'd be beating on donkeys, but the practical thing is the path of least resistance, which still is the Democratic party and we optimists will ride the stubborn mule all the way to the promise land. I mean Grayson says the bill is ammendable we can work with that 4 years before it kicks in anyways. It's all about big picture than getting upset about the present moment in time, it can change, it will change.

32. I remember Americans protesting a soda fountain that wouldn't serve them because of their skin color
In the end, they won. I remember Americans standing up to end the war in Vietnam. In the end, they won

I remember a lot of fights like that: get knocked down, get back up, get knocked down, get back up, get knocked down, get back up ... and finally you get up, and your opponent is running away, and surprise! you've won!

Keep on keepin on
