Who else has had it with the obstructionists who are keeping meaningful healthcare reform from
Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 03:17 PM by GreenPartyVoter
being enacted? Bold Progressives asked me to write to my shaky Senators and Representatives concerning healthcare, and I am so sick of the back room wheedling and whittling and the blustery threats of filibusters and my fruitless polite calls and emails that I broke down and wrote the following:

I say shame on members of Congress who are standing between the un and under-insured and better health care access! A robust opt-out public option will in no way put the insurance companies which fund your and your obstructionist colleagues' election campaigns out of business.

Stop putting the health of massive corporations and your re-election war chests above the needs of SICK and DYING people! If there is no opt-out public option I wish you luck in getting re-elected. And with being able to sleep at night.

Come on DU, let's all give 'em hell!

1. Excellent letter.

Just a suggestion... putting these same words into an actual typed "paper" letter mailed with a stamp, I'm told, carries greater credibility with many of these old school type Congressmen.

(I wish I could write my own Congressmen, but because all 3 of mine are progressives, it would be preaching to the choir. Probably a thank you letter to each after health reform passes, for everything they've done over the years, is something I should do.)

5. I posted something that got ignored too. I think much is a matter of timing.
Right now probably a lot of folks are busy at work.

I found your topic interesting though. I received a similar email in the past week from one of my Senators, Leahy I think, but possibly Sanders, advocating those in states with Congressmen 'on the fence' to write letter of encouragement. So it's good to see that the advice is well received, at least by one person in such a state, and probably by many.

8. Well, I redid the title, which may have been part of the problem in getting attention in the first
place. :)

I hope lots of us are encouraging and/or screaming wherever it would be most helpful. Honestly, I feel so helpless watching this mess unfold, and writing to them is the only thing that makes it feel a teeny bit better. (Maybe staging a sit-in in the rotunda of the Congress would feel much better, but I bet they'd cart me off before I was able to suck in a breath to start chanting with. LOL)
