at least you showed some class by being there for the families of these dead soldiers.

<snip>
U.S. President Barack Obama saw first hand the human cost of the Afghanistan war Thursday as he saluted the flag-draped caskets of 18 soldiers and Drug Enforcement Administration agents killed in Afghanistan this week.

In cold and blustery weather, Obama marched briskly in step with four officers to the aircraft. Attorney General Eric Holder, DEA Acting Administrator Michele Leonhart and two other officials walked behind in a second rank.

They marched up the ramp, out of sight of the media. After a few moments they walked back down the ramp and stood in a line under the tail of the C-17.

Obama stood at attention and saluted as six soldiers carried the casket, bearing the body of Sgt. Dale Griffin of Indiana, off the plane and loaded it onto a waiting van.

3. We all know he inherited them
but he does have the option of ending them. I am anti-war regardless of who is President.

4. You can say what you want, but the man takes his job very seriously
and knows the cost. I personally voted for him because he was a deep thinking man who has examined life and its consequences from the time he was very young. If you haven't read Dreams From My Father, you should. These kind of actions are examples of who Barack Obama is.

7. I read both of his books
I agree he is deep thinking but I still want him to end the wars.
That said I respect his midnight trip to be with the families of the fallen military men and women.

8. No doubt Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al created this mess
but it's time for Obama to bring the troops home.

9. We agree there, and I'm hoping he's trying to find a way to do
just that. At least he isn't blindly and hastily making decisions that have such potentially dire consequences. I prefer his method to the previous admin's and am glad he's weighing all sides and the situation. I won't presume to know what's involved. All I know is it's a huge mess that might never get resolved.

12. Indeed. I only hope it drove the point home about the costs of war
I was very proud of our President when I saw this picture this morning.

I hope that after he sees the costs of the wars that he inherited, that he will be moved to do everything within his power to end them. Two wars without end and without a purpose (aside from enriching some pockets) and more & more of our people come home this way. That's not to say anything about the even higher costs of the innocents in the war zone itself.

Bring them home, President Obama.

13. Me too.
I'm very good at being reasonable and getting along with others who are different from me, who have different ways. I DO know how to adapt my perspective in order to respect diversity. But try as I might, I just CANNOT accept what we are doing. I cannot forget it. I cannot make it quieter in my consciousness. It troubles me constantly.

I Hate War.

14. I cannot come to terms with people who were anti-war
under Bush but are suddenly silent. Time to end these meaningless wars.
The only choice is peace.

15. We all want the wars to end and I think he does too. But we all know
that even as he wants to end the war, he can't just declare it over at the drop of a hat. Consensus has to be built and I think that's what he is doing. Any other president would have caved in by now and sent all those troops over there that the General has been asking for.

Don't mean to be snarky. I just take exception to your implying the war is his and his alone. As though he could simply walk into office and say the war is over.

decisions and isn't trying to hide from them.

I appreciate this very very much from the President.

His Wars? These aren't his wars, and they never were to begin with. We sent everybody and his brother into half the countries in the middle east during the bush administration, not during the Obama Administration.

Soon enough the headlines will change, and you'll see this stunt was just introducing the new model lineup.

If you liked the taste of that, he's got a lot more in store for you.
