I don't usually talk about my kids, but...
My 13 year old daughter was recently accepted into a program at school for kids who are considering a career in the medical field. Only a few dozen kids from the state are accepted. They get to go see surgeries, visit hospitals and have to write reports, etc.

They will also be attending the UN World Youth Conference. The kid is in every advanced class the school district offers, second chair in violin, volunteers at the library and even started selling her crafts for a breast cancer charity on her own.

I’m a proud father.

13. It's not too young if the student is excited about it.
My daughter traveled across the country to a university campus for a 3 week math program when she was 12. It was the thrill of her life, and she couldn't understand why I wasn't equally excited about her doing it. But I found out everything I could about the program, and how they took care of the students. After I got all my questions answered, I put her on the airplane -- and it was the best decision I could have made. She had a wonderful time and came home brimming with confidence.

18. Congratulations! you did good!, now, can you tell us
why you had to move to a different district for the opportunities? Was it because the public school system in your new district was better? how so? Does this new school receives more government funds than others? Why?

Don't you think it is time that all schools are treated equally so that all of our children can enjoy the same opportunties your daugther is enjoying?

I don't want to sound that i am raining in your parade, i am not, iam just want to bring awareness to what is happenign to our school system.

26. I understand.
We had a second child and decided to sell the condo we had at the time because we needed a house. Because we two children, one of the major criteria we had was the school districts. Now, I wish all school districts had the same opportunities and programs, but that's not the case.

Fortunately, an opportunity opened up where we could relocate to a school district that we had identified as one of the better ones in the area, and we of course took advantage of it. I also have to pay for some of the extra services that my kids take advantage of. For that I'm not sorry, or upset about.

I will always push for my kids to succeed, regardless of where we are. I will also always push for every kid to have the same opportunities. The district we are in is amazingly diverse and incredibly progressive.

Of course, seeing surgeries could change her mind about being a medical professional.

In fact, most doctors at academic hospitals do.

9. Why don't you brag a little more?
There's nothing like living vicariously through your children to make yourself feel better about your own shortcomings, is there?

21. This was rude, no need for this. If duers posts their personal
life when is tragic and sad, we have the right to also read about duers who are doing well and are proud. It makes the rest of us proud.

Remember, it takes a village.

17. Replies #9 and #16 are bullshit...
and congratulations. Great that your daughter has opportunities and reaches for them. Great that her family recognized the possibilities and moved to a community where they were possible. VERY sad it required a move for them to be available and that such opportunities are so rare.

31. you have much to be proud of
and since we're singing our children's praises:

my (just turned) 26-year-old just scored in the 99th percentile on his LSAT! and my 17-year-old just pulled his honors anatomy grade up from an F to a C! he had a herniated disk, a physical, and the flu in the first month and 1/2 of the school year and got off on the wrong foot, but has worked his way up and i'm proud of him for that.

33. Wow, good for her!
I understand that feeling of parental pride, my 16 year old was one of handful selected to attend a one week police camp and he won an award for writing his first song! He has only been playing guitar for a couple of years.
