Practicing random acts of vandalism?
Edited on Wed Oct-28-09 06:45 PM by bunkerbuster1
Been quite awhile since I was prompted to tear anyone's sign down, but it happened a few days ago.

Filling up at my local station, I happened upon a bit of anti-cap & trade propaganda, to wit:

And yeah, normally, I just let that sort of thing slide off my back, but for some reason, that afternoon, it really pissed me off that I was being subjected to political messaging while trying to fill up.

So, I

1) tore the sign off the gas pump

and

2) resolved not to fill up there again.

Just doing my bit.

Having a second look at the bit of oil-company messaging, I have to chuckle at their use of the term "concern"... especially since, if you Google the term "concern troll", my seminal post to DU shows up as the third entry. Heh.

If you really want to take a stand don't fill up anywhere

But that would require effort and might be inconvenient.

Nevermind.

3. Well, Mister Tater Guy, if I could move within biking distance to my gig...
I might be able to do that. And I would love to, really. But my work is an hour's drive away. It entails limited-access highways and places where, generally, it would be suicidal here in Jah-Juh to ride a bike.

But really, I do want to be able to bike to work. However, such is life in the Great Recession.

4. Anything is within biking distance . . .
If you have enough time

So you really want to save the world as long as it doesn't effect your bottom line.

How is that different from the oil companies?

Sorry, I guess that came across as a bit self-righteous.

14. There are five other pumps.
I guess I could pretend to gas up on five different occasions and tear those down as well.

but as long as the business is trying to force feed me political messaging designed to benefit their business (and make me less healthy, wealthy and wise) I'll not spend a dime there.

9. Not defending the gas station, but
oftentimes, little posters, business cards, etc are placed on them by folks also filling up. It's like...freeway blogging or promotion but at the gas station. Or public rest rooms, or almost anywhere it's likely to be seen by a number of folks a day.

Can't really blame you for tearing it down though.

12. Just so you know, there was one of these slick plastic signs on each of the pumps.
They all had little tear-off fliers promoting the oil company sponsored advocacy website.

13. Oh, wow. I definitely stand corrected then.
I thought it was just one small sign stuck to the pump or something. Jesus.
