Selling The White House Is Bad Only if Democrats Do it
I just saw the story on CBS Nightly News on how Barack Obama has given access to the White House to individuals who have raised money for the Democratic Party. Even though I think Obama should not be doing these things I have a problem with the Republican Party only having a problem with the selling of the White House when Democrats are in office. I was very happy that at the very beginning of the CBS Nightly News segment it was pointed out that President Bush had done the same thing. For some reason I do not recall hearing many Republicans complaining about President Bush selling the White House when he was in office.

1. who was it that had access to the White House in February 2001?
Oh, yeah ... we never found out ... because Cheney defied the court orders to show who ...

but remember, in 1993, Hillary had to produce her list of people she met with WITH NO EXCEPTIONS and did so, within two months ...

2. Whatever happened
to the idea that conflict of interest and the appearance of corruption are objectively wrong, not just when the other guy does it? If Democrats say it's OK because Republicans did it, and Republicans say it's OK because Democrats did it, doesn't this inevitably lead us to a situation where there are no standards at all and anyone can do anything they damn please without worrying about appearances and propriety and just plain decency?

3. Not What I Was Saying
That is not what I was saying. In my post I stated that I thought Obama should not conduct the practice. My problem is that the Republicans only have a problem with the practice when Democrats conduct the practice. As I mentioned in my post, CBS Nightly News pointed that even President Bush did the same thing when he was in office. However, when Bush was in office the Republicans did not complain. My point was not to say that it was okay for Obama to conduct the practice since Bush had done the same thing. My point was that if the Republicans really had a problem with this practice they should have complained when Bush was in office.
