Anybody notice this? Watch the credits. Every branch of the military contributed to the movie. We are are talking about a lot of manpower and hardware. You can thank the propaganda masters at the Pentagon for this, Phil Straub has his own Hollywood fiefdom. Want to use an aircraft carrier in your film? Run your script by Phil Straub, if the script shines a positive light on the DoD, U.S. foreign policy(ie. U.S military imperialism) and Phil likes it then you get approval. The best part? It's all at the taxpayers expense. One guy get's to say who can play with the big toys, one guy.

1. What I noticed was how Obama's administration set up a deal with the bad guys in the film.
WTF was tha about???

Oh, and I noticed that that film blows.

4. Yeah, that was weird, I had to stop and review that.
They showed shots of Obama interspersed with the Decepticons leader(not Megatron) saying he was going to take over the planet.

2. You'd think that if the military were going to make a two-hour commercial for itself
They'd want to make a better one, instead of this POS.

8. This has been going on for a long time
Twenty five years ago, the same thing happened. Look at the credits for Top Gun some time, see how the military is intertwined in that one. However Platoon was refused all help by the armed services. This is nothing new.

20. Easy to get 20 year old helicopters. Hard to get modern F-16s and carriers.
... which is why there's so few films critical of the Navy. Nobody but James Cameron can build a mock up of an aircraft carrier.

9. It's a Michael Bay movie, what did you expect?
BTW, the DoD gave the Village People an aircraft carrier to film their video for "In the Navy". I'm sure somebody lost their job after that incident...

14. Michael Bay Gets U.S. Department of Defense Approval for 'Transformers 2'
http://www.fearnet.com/news/b14177_michael_bay_gets_us_department_of.html#at

While USAToday.com is reporting that Michael Bay got U.S. Department of Defense approval, it’s safe to say by the looks of these new pics that he is still seeking his own. Yesterday, we brought you some Transformers pics but today, mega-shit has really hit the fan since USAToday.com has got their Transformin’ mitts on even more stills and news from the set of Bay’s Transformers:

Revenge of the Fallen. According to the report, Bay in conjunction with the Department of Defence is using official U.S. “A-10 Thunderbolt II "Warthog" tank-killing jets; six F-16 Fighting Falcons; 10 armored Humvees; the Army's Golden Knights parachute team; two Abrams tanks; two Bradley tanks; two missile-launcher vehicles; two armored personnel carriers; and a quarter-mile of the missile testing range, cleared of unexploded ordnance and built into an Egyptian town and temple.” So even if you’re not amped for the Transformer’s sequel, this DOD partnership is still a pretty interesting testament to the heavy artillery Bay demands on set. Also from the report, there’s a few more pics to wet your whistle and the apparent news that Megatron will not return for Revenge of the Fallen?

16. G.I. JOE was Hasbro's next movie & their HQ is just a half hour drive from the Navy HQ in Newport.
Edited on Wed Oct-28-09 06:48 PM by slampoet
That is why you are seeing such a cozy relationship between The military and Transformers.

Hasbro wants to protect their relations with the military and they want to make the GI JOE movie.

17. That movie came out in the Summer already
GI Joe came out already and while it did okay at the box office it didn't nearly do as well as the $200 million they spent to make it.

As for Michael Bay... there are few directors I wish were banished to a remote island with no communication more than Bay.

Edited on Wed Oct-28-09 06:56 PM by Touchdown
He's the master of big budget movies where the story goes NOWHERE!

EDIT: He's a hack with a big budget, like that other hack, Roland Emmerich... the GErman Michael Bay.
