1. Remember when "Communist China" was the scary threat? I do believe "Capitalist China"
is way scarier.

2. we're killing ourselves
and trying to take other life forms with us.

I am reading "Threshold" by Thom Hartmann and in there he says that 1/4 of all species that were here 200 years ago are now extinct and in only 30 years, another 1/4 will be gone. If this is really true, it won't take long for us to follow.

3. This was enough to make me cringe. Those poor people.
Certainly is a wake-up call for the Chinese people. It should be a reminder for the rest of the world.

9. But nothing on the scale of unbridled, unrestricted greed as is now de rigeur in China..
...

The US can cut as much CO2 emissions etc as it wants, unless India and China are on board it won't matter much...and I don't think that either country are in a listening frame of mind right now...

Short answer?

We're fucked.

15. Um, you can't blame that on capitalism. How about the absolutism of the Chinese Govt?
It stomps on its people every day.

10. Who cares? China now has a bunch of billionaires and that's what matters.
So a few million people will die to make them richer, they were going to die anyway.

13. I have two questions.
How long until the population is wiped out should this continue at its current rate?

How long until the pollution impacts the rest of the planet?

That water ain't just sitting in China. Those airborne chemicals ain't just wafting over the Chinese countryside.

and not here in my backyard:sarcasm:

jesusonaskateboard, all that pollution does not stay in one place, what has been done to the waters will affect everyone, everywhere.........it just hasn't gotten to them yet.

a few more thoughts. Will the owners of the factories ever be named? Would the same owners do the same thing over here in the good ole U.S. of A if they could?

This is what a man made disaster looks like and the richest of them don't care at all, they'll take their ride to a base on another planet someday and never look back at what they fucked up.
