Just showed a really cool camera angle shot that included the shuttle on one pad and Ares on it's lauch pad.

1. I hope this holds
I work at Glenn and we did a lot of this work. I wish I was there today, but I am doing 2nd shifts so I have to watch at home. This is going to play a large part on my future at NASA.

5. It may be more critical on a test flight than it would be once the rocket is in regular use
I don't know, but I don't remember the same delay in the Gemini and Apollo rockets, just with the shuttle.

6. I remember regular delays during the early space program.
They were always postponing due to weather etc. I don't recall if it was common during the actual manned moon landings.

7. Guess I was too young or not paying enough attention
Though we'd get up early to watch the launches. Our house in Central Florida was just far enough away that we could watch the rockets go up on TV, run outside and see the vapor trail as it rose over the garage across the street. For the very early morning launches we could even hear the roar of the rockets, though we were about eighty miles away. Dad figured out the timing so we knew that was what we were hearing and not some truck rumbling on the highway.

With all of that, I do not remember the delays we've seen with the shuttle launches. Of course, back then, they did not have the same electronics to worry about.
