I don't know how much discipline the Democrats have over him (or any of their other members, for that matter).

Although many Nutmeggers vote for Democrats, they register in large numbers as independents, which is part of the reason that Sen. Lieberman didn't retire when he lost the primary nomination in '06. He knew he could pick up the independent vote, as well as some Republicans who knew their own candidate didn't stand a chance.

This allegiance outweighs concern for interests of their constituents and for those of the Democratic Party. The longer a Senator has been around the more prominent this failing becomes.

They are much more interested in helping their peers get re-elected than they are in taking seats from Republicans. Many of them felt Joe had been somehow wronged in the primary, that he was being robbed of something he was owed.

When the Senate Democratic caucus was getting organized this January, I contacted Jay Rockefeller to say that Lieberman should be stripped of all seniority because he had worked for McCain against Obama. How much will that forced public option cost? How much will forced insurance thru an insurance carrier cost? What will be the fines if I can't pay?

These are all reasons why the only option that will work is medicare for all single payer. I already have medicare taxes taken out of my check. That is enough seriously, I use public heatlh centers now sure they are a long wait and a pain but so what they are free.

after he was clearly the winner of the CT primary. I wrote to my MD Senators (and also to those from my native MT) and begged them to at least give Lamont moral support by backing his candidacy. I received standard letters from all except for Paul Sarbanes (no longer a MD Sen), who actually sent me two(!) quite nasty responses, stating that it would be illegal(!) for him to favor one candidate over another. WTF? What does the DSCC do? And I was merely asking them to support the DEMOCRATIC candidate.
I nearly lost it because I generally liked what Sarbanes did and he could merely have sent me the standard response like everyone else. He didn't need to act like such a drama queen himself.
I could only figure that Sarbanes himself probably never knew anything about the responses. But some person on his staff was certainly a Lieberman fan ... and so far as I go, my FU is meant for that person too!
