SCREW THE DINOs! I Can't Make It Any Clearer Than That!
Edited on Tue Oct-27-09 09:34 AM by Rudy Adams
You know, at times like this, I kinda wish we had the same type of governmental system as the Brits or Canadians: In those countries, a Prime Minister with a parliamentary majority can pretty much do whatever the hell s/he wants.

Of course, if you're a member of the PM's party, you can, if you wish, vote against your leader. But guess what happens then? You get kicked out of the party! You don't lose your seat in the parliament, but you will not be your former party's candidate in the next election. You can cross the aisle and join one of the opposition parties, or you can run as an independent next time around (which is even more difficult in parliamentary democracies than it is here).

My ruminations upon this matter, as you've already guessed, have been prompted by Sen. Reid's announcement yesterday that a public option, though not as robust as many of us had hoped, will be a part of the final bill submitted to the Senate.

Call me suspicious. Call me paranoid. You can even call me cynical if you wish, but the question now turning over and over in my mind is, "Which Democrat(s) will commit the political treason of supporting a GOP filibuster on this crucial legislation?"

Lincoln? Lieberman? Landrieu? Or perhaps I'm having a Sesame Street flashback and fixating on the letter "L" this morning.

Nelson, maybe?

The point is, of course, that any non-Republican who fails to vote for cloture needs to fail in his/her next election campaign! I can only hope that President Obama, the DSCs, and, most importantly, WE, shall make the utmost of efforts to ensure that any and all closet Republicans who would deprive us of this badly-needed, life-saving, nation-changing action be banished to the electoral outer darkness forever!

1. How about waiting till they actually vote?
Then you can diss em all you want. As we have seen with Reid, everything may not be as it seems. There is a lot of positioning going on right now, and some senators are up for re-election and are doing what they think best helps their chances of re-election.
The games played in the hallways and back offices of the senate are often unknown to us and we only see what we are allowed to see.

I doubt you will see any democrat vote against cloture.

3. Right Now... I Personally Thin I Would Vote AGAINST Harry Reid!!
At least I KNOW what I will get with a REPUKES and can FIGHT BACK for a BETTER Democrat to represent the people!! As it is, we are SUPPOSED to support people like REID simply because he's a DEMOCRAT! And as far as NELSON GOES, there's ANOTHER NELSON here in Florida who will sell us out TOO!!

I'm not sure how much longer I can deal with what is being SHOVED DOWN out GULLETS!!!

If THIS is what we've gotten by "WAITING AND WAITING" to see what the REAL thing will look like... then call me SUPER SUSPICIOUS too!!!

I have so little trust and AM cynical! Democrats have cozied up to Wall Street just as much as the REPUKES have, sorry but I see very little difference!!

5. Everyone is entitled to an opinion
I know a lot of posturing goes on in the senate. Often things are said to elicit a response or to see where others stand. The PO we will eventually have remains to be seen. It may be better than you expect!

6. As far as I know you have voted for Republicans every chance you had
That is the marvel of an anonymous political chat site.

7. NEVER In My Entire LIFE Have I Voted For A REPUKE! I Was Indoctrinated
into politics by my father when I was 11 years old, AND have been a Democrat ever since! I'm a BOOMER and remember well all that has gone forth since then.

I've marched and protested for many causes, NONE OF WHICH ANY Repuke would have EVER condoned! Sorry, but you've got the wrong PERSON to accuse!!

But then again, I'm one of those "Liberal" types which of course makes me SUSPECT anyway!

2. Political calculations
I have an different view.

I trust these democrats to make the decision about this and every other issue according to their own political calculations.
These are successful professional politicians who's election I applauded. I never expected nor did I want puppets on a string.

4. I don't want it to appear that the Dems are ramming stuff through at will
Bush and the Rethugs did that and we see where that got them.

Dems are doing just fine.
