1. If only such a thing happened here.
If I'm not mistaken, our rate is around 40%. I think it should be at LEAST 65%.

2. That's not what the results of their most recent election said.
The big winner there was the tax-cut happy FDP

5. Knowledge of the German politcal landscape is really all that's necessary
But here.

"FDP will reach its goal of a new tax system: 10% for income up to 20,000€ a year, 25% up to 50,000€ a year (however, the first 20,000 would still be at 10%, just the next 30,000 would be taxed with 25%), and 35% from there upwards. Sounds nice at the beginning since everybody would be relieved and I really like the concept that e.g. if you earn 20,001€ all of your money won’t be taxed in the 25% bracket but only this last Euro. The problematic part of this law is how FDP wants to pay for this tax cut for everybody and I don’t really know if it is very just to all people. Party members have declared that because of the increased income of people (or what is left of it) there will be economic growth and illicit work would decrease."

They had an election a few weeks ago. FDP picked up enough seats that they are now the new coalition partner of the CDU, and the FDP has always been the party for fiscal conservatives in Germany.

6. Why doesn't that group just send in more money?
If they are so gung-ho about higher taxes, just send in a lot more next time.

7. Because they know the government will never accept thier petition..
It's a safe way to make headlines without really having to worry about the government accepting your idea. they should just cut a check if they are serious and quit showboating.

10. sure
And why don't we, rather than raising the marginal tax rates on wealth and the estate tax to pre-Bush levels, instead just have those few rich people donate money instead?
