McNaughton defends his artwork ("One Nation Under God") against liberals (and some right-wingers)

It won't let me cut and paste some of the text - but it's worth a read.

He misspelled Thomas Paine's name (Payne), number 3 of his rebuttal talks about , "accepted Christian religion" (whatever that is)...

1. As a Christian that picture sickens me. Not only does it demean the

US government but it belittles the work of Christ. He has distorted the very meaning of both. His picture does represent the rw belief that there should be no separation of church and state. He is crazy.

I can't really get past the representation of 'Jesus'. I mean, I can live with the whole 'White European Jesus' look - even if it is a bit of a stretch. But, the CLOTHING this 'Jesus' is garbed in is SO UNREALISTIC. That is the one thing I can't get far enough past to truly analyze all the problems with the depiction.

I come away from this image with two thoughts:

1) A REAL Christian would know Jesus would never wear golden clothing and thus, would never portray Jesus in golden clothes.

2) Mr McNaughton should go back to doing portraits of Elvis on black velvet.

15. I wrote the artist and asked why they made Jesus look like an exotic dancer.

and that Jesus was a jewish person of Middle eastern extraction, and that he probably looked like Yasser Arafat, not a stripper.
