hate this argument! Sure Olbermann is a lefty, but he doesn't make crazy shit up like Beck does. I wish the media would stop making that argument!!!!

2. Never heard this argument before
I don't think an "all commentary" show shares a lot with an "occasional commentary" show.

3. Keith O. earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell
Beck only has a high school diploma (like most right wing talk show hosts, btw)

6. Actually, Beck's bio only lists "Sehome High School"
as his highest level of education. I shouldn't just assume that he graduated...

8. i think keith and michael savage are analogous
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 11:41 PM by paulsby
fwiw, i have long thought keith is clownish, and the schtick gets old fast.

maddow is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> olberman.

savage,fwiw, has a Phd.

the guy is not stupid, and imo it's mostly a schtick. just like olberman. actually, i think malloy is closer to a left wing savage than olberman. malloy is often very hateful, just as savage often is. they are both fun imo in small doses.

but neither can be compared to a maddow, who is just searingly intelligent, and spot on

10. KO and Savage analogous????? You have GOT to be kidding...
Savage isn't fit to untie his shoes. Whether he has a PhD or not. And Olbermann is not "hateful." He's also damn intelligent and he uses facts. You may not like him as much as you do Maddow, but he's just as smart.

11. it's not an issue of smart
olberman is smart. so is savage. so is maddow.

it's just that olberman does his schtick and savage does his schtick, and i can take both in small doses. ditto for malloy. like i said, i actually think malloy is a better analogy.

maddow is smart AND wonkish (which are not the same thing). the only right wing analog to maddow i can think of is medved. medved is very very very smart. i have seen him debate and his knowledge is enyclopedic. the guy entered yale at 16 and graduated with honors. he then attended yale law.

the real idiot in the bunch is hannity. the guy is just NOT that bright. it's kind of sad. his arguments are almost always silly.

5. And Michael Moore is the Limbaugh of the left
Some of these idiotic contrived equivalencies get used around here. There is no popular personality far enough left to compare with the right's stable of extremist nutbags.

9. It's being said EVERYWHERE. I am SO SICK OF IT.
There was ANOTHER wire story ran in papers last Sunday about the "loudness" of pundit discourse. This one lumped Olbermann, Maddow AND Schultz in with the likes of Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh.

12. In today's "Oregonian" this very argument was made in a guest editorial.
As if more "fair and balanced" bullshit will effectively replace THE TRUTH. That's what these morons don't understand: To lump together all passionate voices from the right and the left is to give equal credibility to a failed political and social philosophy as to a workable one. This technique is anti-progressive and anti-democratic.

But no surprise.

14. One little problem- Keith uses facts, rational anaysis -and displays ethics
Something that the VAST majority of the so called "mainstream" media in America demonstrably lacks.

Beck is so far off the deep end he's gone off the edge of Niagra Falls in a barrel several times.

in an opinion piece discussing political pundits. This was in today's paper. So yes, there are some people making this ridiculous comparison.
