Press charges against Faux News for conspiracy to commit treason or STFU already
It's called freedom of the press, they can say whatever they want to say as long as they don't threaten anyone. BUT, Faux IS threatening people, 1000s of people and the President of the United States. That is called conspiracy to commit murder and treason. And here's my problem with this whole lie we call society: if we as a society refuse to hold criminals responsible then it's our fault NOT THEIRS.

Go ahead and sing the praises of marijuana and dominoes but if our culture doesn't progress to the point of hold the most obvious criminals accountable for anything then we're screwed.

6. Better yet, give Fox's chair in the White House press briefing room to the National Enquirer instead
At least that way we know we'll get some real reporting.

9. The founding fathers made sure that accusations of treasons are almost impossible...
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 06:48 PM by Ozymanithrax
Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

Unfortunately, they raised no barriers against a so called media outlet that uses lies and propaganda to further the cause of one particular political party. Fox news is a propaganda outlet. It isn't news. Those people who listen to it prefer to be lied to in order to justify their own world view.

If a news organization, like Fox, acts as the blatant tool of one political party it has thrown itself in the political arena and deserves to be eviscerated.

It is a pity that Fox hides lies under the guise of freedom of the press. They are not the press.

12. There's no reason not to
let fox do it's thing. If this cable "news outlet" has so few viewers, comparatively speaking, then just ignore it, change the channel, turn off the tv, or even boycott the advertisers. Whether you consider fox a part of the press or not, there is still freedom of speech.

Just a note: if you go to seriously right-wing sites, they're saying exactly the same thing about everybody here preferring "lies" to justify their world view. I, personally, give people more credit for being able to think and discern.

20. Fox news, however, is not acting like a news station.
They don't just report the news and coment upon it, which would be find and dandy, they have taken it upon themsleves to lead a protest movement against the current US government. That makes them a propaganda outfit.

And as for those on the right, I am more than hapy to swap facts with them.

No one treats Think Progress, DailyKos or other advocacy groups as news organizations. They are rectonized as players in the political arena. Fox News has chosen to become a player, and in doing has violated the basic concept of the media as separated from those they report on.

Read up on the Public Trust. Lying is not freedom of speech and the people that are licensed to broadcast on our airwaves must follow certain standards.. Fox needs to have their license revoked.

15. Ours
Read this:

American airwaves belong to the American people. Our government issues licenses to stations to broadcast over those airwaves as long as they maintain their obligation to uphold the Public Trust.

25. Fox News does not have or need a license...
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 01:05 AM by liberati
Any more than any other cable network. They are not a "broadcast station" and do not use the public airwaves. Only stations that you can actually pick up with antennas (rabbit ear, rooftop, etc.) use the public airwaves and are licensed by the government. That would be your local ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX etc. stations or non-network independent stations. (And don't confuse FOX, the broadcast network, with Fox News, the cable network.)

Sad but true. Not an ideal situation, but the fact of the matter is that you can not pay for cable and Fox News will never enter your house.

17. All American radio & television is, technically, privately run
However, the stations that are awarded licenses must follow certain standards. America is the only first-world nation where its media is not state-run.

19. As Ms. Maddow just said
There is nothing wrong with opinion. However, when a "news" station promotes and supports an effort to bring down our government, well...

Maddow decided not to commit to a position on that but I will.

Fox News abuses the Public Trust. They have a venue and reach that ordinary citizens do not possess and they are using it to foment civil unrest.

21. Actually, citizens have as much reach as Fox News.
There is always public access television.

I'm just as upset at Fox as anyone, but I think any attempt at just knocking them off the block - however legally justified or not - will do worse than no good. The truth is that we have to find a way to get everyone to recognize bullshit when they see it, or something will always fill the vacuum. The problem lies in getting off our ass and finding a real way to make it work.
