Tying the H1N1 vaccine rollout to "Government Competence in Health Care"

In anticipation of vaccine shortages as flu season accelerates.. It would be VERY useful to know which contractors were given the job of producing it, how many doses were ordered.. why they are behind. . etc etc etc

I have already seen this frame being constructed on CNN

1. My understanding is that there are limited number of facilities worldwide

that produce vaccine and the US, unlike most countries, decided not to use the vaccine with the adjuvant fearing that people would avoid being vaccinated because of fear of the adjuvant.

However this creates a problem because the adjuvant reduces the amount of vaccine required in each dose so if you don't have the adjuvant you need you produce more vaccine which takes time.

2. Yes, I've heard the same thing. Production of flu vaccine is not a big money-maker

so there are few producers. I recall this discussion during the shortage a few years ago.

3. It's been the puke talking point du jour in CO

A couple of AM radio hacks have been bringing this up for the past couple of days - "Obama PROMISED 120 million doses and all we have seen are 13 doses". Dan Caplis, a trial lawyer who's spouted the most virulent hate of Obama since Beck and Rush, is leading the charge during his 3 hrs of puke yak.

I'm guessing they expected Obama to create the vaccine, test it, and distribute it all while he's busy doing nothing. I'm so tired of hearing this bullshit is just pisses me off against the right even more.
