Poll: GOP losing touch with base
By Eric Zimmermann - 10/22/09 04:18 PM ET

The GOP isn't too popular among prospective primary voters, a new Rasmussen poll finds.

73% of Republicans who plan to vote in 2012 primaries say the party has lost touch with its base. 15% say the party is holding true to its values.

The discontent of the Republican base is significant. Primaries in Florida and New York are pitting conservatives against establishment-favored moderates.

The poll also found that Mike Huckabee is--at this early, early stage--the favored candidate for 2012. He garners 29% support, compared to 24% for Mitt Romney and 18% for Sarah Palin.

1. "conservatives against establishment-favored moderates"
I've seen that phrase pop up several times now, and the inaccuracy of it is both disturbing and typical.

They're not "conservatives," they're fanatics and zealots. And by "establishment-favored" moderates, they mean those who are easily bought and sold.

A little truthiness would be good at this point, IMO. :)

2. Who's losing touch with who?
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 06:59 AM by Ganja Ninja
They've become nothing but an angry rabble of misinformed morons. They have no clear agenda other than making sure Obama is as big a failure as Bush was. Their hate and racism are the only thing holding them together.

3. Well, they have long ago lost touch with reality...I saw a 2012 bumper sticker yesterday
for.........RON PAUL!!!!!

My wife confused him with Ru Paul, and I told her no, they are very different.
I'd love to see 50 or more different RW candidates for the GOP nomination in '12 - all competing for the limited Publican dollars and all spreading hate talk about each other and everyone who disagrees with them.
They will really kill themselves if tehy continue the way they are going.

4. The GOOP Still Has A Major Constituency
The corporate media. No matter how out of the mainstream they get, sure doesn't look like it on my cables. Talk shows are still loaded with blowhard rushpublicans free to spew lies and distortions and rarely are held accountable. The lazy beltway drinkie-drinkie press would rather pass along talking points and "get along" than to do real legwork and put this corrupt and discredited party in proper perspective.

Today's GOOP is a regional party that continues to drive itself off the political abyss...and the good thing is the more outlandish and obstructionist they become, the more they alienate more of their own former supporters. They've had their circular firing squad out that could soon turn real messy (as we're seeing in NY-23) where the question won't be which rushpublican can win but who is the "true" CONservative.

This is the true boooosh legacy in action here...a party pulled so far right it's made itself irrelevant.

:hi:

6. I hope Republicans destroy each other
 Republicans whacking at each other trying to please a base that belongs in a rubber room is just good entertainment.
