Nashville attorney breezes through confirmation hearing for [US Circuit] judgeship
WASHINGTON -- Nashville attorney Jane Branstetter Stranch easily made it through her confirmation hearing on Wednesday on her nomination to become a U.S. Circuit Court Judge for the Sixth Circuit.

Stranch, who was nominated by Democratic President Barack Obama in August, was introduced to the Senate Judiciary Committee by Tennessee's two Republican Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker. Both praised the nominee for her legal background and community involvement.

Only two members of the committee, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and ranking Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., attended the hearing and they asked mild questions.

Sessions asked Stranch about Obama's comments that his judicial appointees should include empathy in their decisions. "I will be objective and fair," Stranch said.
