I just got a packet from AARP for Medicare Supplement Plans --
The return envelope is addressed to United Healthcare Insurance Company.

How can this be a good thing?

1. All of the Medicare supplement plans are run by private ins companies.
UnitedHealth Group is who AARP chose.

6. Yeah but, Isn't United Healthcare the worst of the worst?
For what's wrong with health insurance companies?

9. United Healthcare is bigger, but UniCare is by far the worst in the industry.

8. Thank you! Those rates are actually pretty doable - I'm paying
$400 a month for single coverage now and that is only 60% of the cost as my retirement plan picks up the other 40%.

3. because medicare suppliment plans are private plans
like medicare advantage is not medicare, its a private plan by a private for profit company.

Medicare needs to be fixed, and no one in the private sector should be able to use the word medicare to promote their product.

4. AARP's Medicare supplement plan is from United Healthcaree.
There are many other Medicare supplement policies available. When I was evaluating potential coverage for my husband, and five years later for me, I found that Wellmark (BC/BS) of Iowa had lower rates than United (or any other insurance co.) for the same coverage. All Medicare supplements have to offer the same coverage, a range of policies from A to F so your main incentive is to find the supplement available in your state that costs the least. We chose plan F. I know BC/BS get a bad rap on DU. For some reason our Wellmark coverage in Iowa (and South Dakota) are sound programs at fairly reasonable rates. Husband and I have both had several serious illnesses and major surgeries. Between Medicare and Wellmark, we've never paid a penny out of pocket for any of our healthcare bills.

5. It's cheaper to go straight United than thru AARP.
That's what I found anyway.
