A ray of light in a city of blight: Detroit Adventure Pass
Michigan has been hit hard, but I would like to take the time to post about one of the positive things that S.E. Michigan has to offer. Basically, the "Museum Adventure Pass" is a pass that allows free admission to local museums/cultural places. The sites that are part of the program are located throughout the tri-county area. The passes are available at local libraries... again, at no cost!

The Adventure Continues: 2009-2010 Program

For the third year of the Museum Adventure Pass program (October 25, 2009 - October 24, 2010) new adventures await you at a variety of Detroit area cultural institutions.

Art that inspires and engages, hands-on science that excites and educates, history and culture that brings past and present Michigan to life – all of these and more are waiting for you at your local public library. Just use your library card to receive a Museum Adventure Pass, presented by Macy’s, and get free admission for two or four, depending on location, at one of these participating organizations.

The participating organizations listed at right are kindly donating all of the free admissions; they are not reimbursed. Be sure to thank them for their generosity when you visit!

I would be interested in hearing about other cities that have a similar program!

1. Los Angeles does

Twenty-four museums in Los Angeles and surrounding areas will offer free admission this Saturday and Sunday, October 3rd and 4th. Some will participate on both days, while others will offer free admission on only one of the days. Check MuseumsLA.org for details.

Some of the museums in LA offering the deal are MOCA, Autry National Center, California African American Museum, CA Science Center, Craft and Folk Art Museum, Fowler and Hammer Museums at UCLA, Museum of Latin American Art, Natural History Museum of LA County, Paley Center for Media and the Skirball; as well as the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena.
