Two Montana Teacher's Aides Charged With Abuse (Waterboarding)
Edited on Thu Oct-22-09 03:59 PM by cal04
Mother Alleges Her Son Was Forced to Eat His Own Vomit and Sit in Soiled Pants

http://abcnews.go.com/WN/montana-teachers-aides-accused-waterboarding-special-student/story?id=8890208

Two teacher's aides face felony charges stemming from allegations that they abused special needs students in their Montana middle school classroom.

(snip)
Schilling's mother, Tifonie Schilling, said her son, now 14, has Fragile X syndrome, a genetic disorder that leaves him with limited means of communication and results in his showing symptoms often associated with autism.

Because of this, Schilling said, her son was never able to tell her about the brutal treatment he was allegedly receiving at the hands of his own teacher's aides, which they have denied.

"If the teachers thought Garrett was being lazy or falling asleep at his desk, they forcibly took my son to the kitchen sink in the room and forced his head under the water while he was screaming for his mother," Schilling said of the alleged incidents. "And if he had an accident in his pants he was made to sit in it all day. They would taunt him and say, 'You stink like a baby.'

"They were waterboarding my son," Schilling said, adding that she learned of the alleged abuse in April 2008, when a teacher's aide with whom she was friendly sent her an e-mail warning her of Garrett's teacher's aides.

(OMG I have been a TA for 25 yrs with special needs children and I have never heard such a vile story)

3. if you do hate children, what better than to abuse those who can't defend themselves?
just like pedophiles seek out employment that affords them access, I'm assuming so did these reprehensible monsters

7. People who hate children--pedophiles, child abusers---
Edited on Thu Oct-22-09 03:39 PM by CoffeeCat
will make sure that they have access to children.

Abuse makes them feel powerless and in control--because they have such
weak ego strength. So powering up on children or those who can't defend
themselves--makes them feel like they have command over something. Many
times, it's the only time they feel alive. They don't relate well to
adults and are often socially awkward.

They are the biggest cowards in our society.

Abusing kids is a high for them. Sick, I know--but you can understand
why they would be compelled to be around children.

6. They probably got jobs because the aides knew somebody

or were related to somebody in the district.

Because districts are shitcanning teachers and other people right and left for cost-cutting reasons and pushing for a revolving door system of public education, more and more of these mental misfits are being put in public schools, whether as aides or as teachers, or, for that matter, as administrators.

Fortunately, something like this isn't common, but it shouldn't happen at all.

8. These people need to be charged with assault and battery
and go to jail.
They should also be bared from ever working with children again.
I am so sorry the child went through that.
This is what torturing people has brought us to..thanks to Bush and Cheney and all you war mongering neocon bastards.

12. This one comment hits it on the head and asks questions
that should raise red flags about this "case" (typos from original):

The teachers who wittnessed the acts of abuse and did not report them immediatly should be charged and fired. All school staff members are mandated child abuse reports in most states. This makes me sick. I don't think the aid who emailed the mother is much better. Why did she not go to a supervisor and get this to stop, why did she not call the department of human services. Sure she notified the mom, but she dropped the ball by not notifying the principal and police. I am a teacher and I have on more than one occassion in the last 15 years called others to task and reported the abuse to higher ups.
_____

Why, indeed?

9. I realize that in advocating this I violate the 8th Amendment.
But Were I the judge in this case, I would sorely be tempted to sentence these vile piles of excrement to a taste of their own medicine, multiple waterboardings, followed by a long stretch in Gen Pop, with their offense clear for all to know.

But that is wrong.

So I wish them a long stay in prison instead.

13. They SHOULD though be charged with violation of this child's civil rights
Take it straight to the Federal level and it sounds like much of the rest of the staff should be talking to an AG, as well.

15. Big IF
As I quoted in the most above, what about the aide who told the mother, but was LEGALLY OBLIGATED to report the alleged abuse to the principal and to the police?

THAT person is just as guilty as the others.
