After the convocation tonight, I'm supposed to be doing grief counseling for some of the kids who are returning home. That will probably last the rest of the week.

and an interesting juxtaposition, I'm trying to work on prom stuff for my daughter's high school. The prom is Saturday.

Keith was again saying just the right things on Dan Patrick's radio show...about how he wants to cover the VT story, how it is important, how he wants to do it with dignity and not with sentimental exploitation, but how he believes that other stories need to be covered as well.

I will transcribe his remarks later. They were yet more proof that this is a news anchor who THINKS.

What's going on about the missing 4M e-mails from Roverat? What about Gone-zales' upcoming testimony? Kucinich planning on filing Articles of Impeachment against Cheney? What's up with that? Bees are dying worldwide because of cell phone usage -- are humans doomed? (OK, that last one might be more appropriate for Oddball, but ... )

6. One thing Keith pointed out today was that there won't be funny items on the show again

until later. That's another great thing about Countdown--the light features like Oddball, Keeping Tabs and Worst Person in the World get scotched at times like this. They are slowly reintroduced later, when they make for good comic relief.

Keith likes to talk about having been at Ground Zero in the days after 9/11 and having a firefighter stop him to ask him how he thought the Mets would do. At first he thought it was the most bizarre question--then he realized that for this man, being able to go home and take in a ballgame was his little connection to sanity and his old normal life. It was important.
