CBO score for a single-payer amendment or bill ...
In today's article "House Dems want Medicare for everyone" there is statement that is not getting much attention.

"...Leaders are planning to roll the bill out next week, and are hoping to vote the first week in November..."

Since August we have been told that the CBO is scoring a SP bill, but no estimates have been released.

If you would like to see the information please call the Leaders and inquire when this information will be released to the public.

CBO response to my inquiry on scoring a Single-payer amendment.

October 13th...

From CBO today, they are only required to give estimates for bills that are reported out of committee.

Weiner may have asked for a score, but unless it is reported out of committee or pushed for a score by committee chairs or someone in a position of authority then many times they are not scored.

She said they try and work with members of Congress on other estimates, but even if they did that the estimate would not be published.

They have a staff of 250 and 50 people have been working solely on HC for months.

In summary someone needs to make it a priority for CBO and that has not been done.

1. I Heard Ed Talking About The CBO Score Today
Ed Schultz started out his show by announcing that the CBO score had just been released, and that the mainstream media has been eerily silent on it. The reason? It turns out the Public Option is going to be a deficit REDUCER. It's actually CHEAPER than the $1 trillion magic number, and would result in a deficit REDUCTION in the FIRST 10 years.

I was actually on this site right now hoping someone had posted a link to the CBO score. If nobody has, I know Ed said he posted it on his website, so I'll go and get it for everyone to see.

3. If you can find the link that would be great, there is nothing on the CBO site...
also I'm speaking about a single-payer bill, not a public option bill.

Thanks.

6. I appreciate the links, but this is for the public option not single-payer...
some people have led others to believe that the PO is the same or similar to the single-payer bill such as HR 676.

Thanks.

2. They scored Kooch's amendment, not Weiner's
But Weiner is maintaining that Hoyner and Pelosi have granted him an up/down floor vote, so we shall have to see.

Kucinich's amendment came in at 871b and a deficit reduction, making it stronger than even Rockefeller's.

10. This looks like the original 3200 without the amendments
Here is the news item about the $871: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4112349

Reference is Medicare + 5%, no mention of allowing states to move ahead without the Feds (Kooch).

16. Slaughter said she'd received the same assurance... that Weiner's amendment
would go to the floor for an up or down vote.

We should be flooding them with calls on this. 800-828-0498

25. I don't think that is the case... but I'm not sure.
I just thought having it scored might increase the likelihood of getting it passed, if there's a significant savings.

11. Posted A Link To The CNN Story On My Facebook Page And Got This Response
"interesting that the CBO finds such positive figures...considering this is their plan. Perhaps they're biased?? in all fairness, I don't knock the plan entirely but any plan that includes fines for not buying isn't in my playbook."

Wow. There's a LOT of disinformation and/or ignorance out there. I can't believe I had to actually inform somebody that the Congressional Budget Office is NOT a partisan organization, nor do they write legislation. These teabaggers are clinging to any straw they can find.

And does anyone know about the whole "fines for not having insurance" thing? Is that likely to be in the final bill? Do the amendments being considered now even include that? Because I thought that idea had been scrapped.

15. Even before Obama took office the insurance companies agreed...
to cover everyone if there are mandates for people to purchase insurance. The only way to enforce the mandate is with a fine, so I would expect that to be in the final bill, the amount of the fine is in question.

Kos is blocked for me, but that was the link from the post I read yesterday about this.

17. They have been saying the same thing since August ...
I'll just post my reply from the DU thread about the "new" information on Daily Kos. The poster at DK also said in the comment section that they are scoring HR 676, word for word, that is not what I've been told.

Hoping for a vote in early November - no cost estimate since August??? Something smells fishy.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6818878&mesg_id=6819697

I've been told by Weiner's office that it is an amendment, then last week they said it was a bill, now they just told me it is an amendment.

When I asked if there was any new information since last week she said nothing has changed.

It has been sent to the CBO, but as the CBO explained to me last week, they are not obligated to score anything unless it has been reported out of committee.

I think we'll get some estimate, but it will be close to the time of the vote, the Democrats are in no hurry to have this information in the hands of the public.

But no matter how few people seem interested in pushing for this amendment to be scored, or for more people to support it... I'll just keep tilting at that windmill. :P
