U.S. Military Forces Now Detaining 18,000 Prisoners In Iraq

Washington, D.C. (AHN) - A new report says that the United States is now responsible for holding 18,000 detainees at two facilities in Iraq.

American forces are in command of Camp Bucca in Umm Qasr and Camp Cropper in Baghdad, and have been overwhelmed with detainees; 1,000 persons alone were arrested during the recent Baghdad security push last month.

The number of detainees, which jumped from 10,000 in 2006, continues to grow while at the same time the length of detention for the average detainee is also on the rise in Iraq.

According to a report by the Washington Post, an 8,000 of those currently being held have been jailed for longer than a year and around 1,300 have been detained for two years.
