2. A handy tool.
Bear in mind that this represents official BLS numbers. It's even worse.

6. shows San Fran after the last dot com bubble burst ......
unless i'm reading it incorrectly, the graphic uses data up through 2004

that would explain why san fran lost so many jobs...it was one of the seats of the dot com bubble and bore the brunt of its collapse

7. tip for viewers- don't miss the sliding calander marking at the top..
when you slide it to the right, to JUL2009- it gets EXTREMELY scary.

almost like a projected nuclear attack map from the cold war days.

9. You can really see the toll Katrina took on the Coast
if you look in July 2005 compared to September 2005. Though the whole thing is horrific, especially the closer you get to present day.

10. That seems to only include metropolitan areas.
Edited on Tue Oct-20-09 11:57 PM by RandomThoughts
Rural areas seem to have the same trends not shown in that chart. Although the rural states have lower unemployment, and population, having no indicators in so many states seems to make the graphic not be as accurate.

However that chart only showing unemployment problems in urban areas fits many ideas.

http://www.google.com/publicdata?ds=usunemployment&met=unemployment_rate

The graph says not all areas were treated equally, implying some areas have better some worse results, then the chart leaves out data for rural areas, it does not look like an accurate representation.

13. Bloody mess. Detroit is like the canary in the mine.
As our population continues to increase, to see this adjusted as jobs gained/lost per population statistic could only look worse I suspect.
