Composer of Addams Family, Green Acres themes dies
<snip>
But his most famous work was the theme to The Addams Family, a tune accented by finger snaps and opening with the cleverly quirky lyrics: “They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're altogether ooky: the Addams family.”

Edited on Tue Oct-20-09 10:52 AM by Richardo
I saw an interview where he was describing the creation and subsequent popularity of the Addams Family theme song. :D

RIP Vic Mizzy

17. Just start singing this:
"We all live in a Yellow Submarine... a Yellow Submarine... Yellow Submarine..."

The other song will be gone in no time.

19. So that's the way you wanna play, huh?
To the tune of "Buffalo Girls Won't You Come Out Tonight":

I know a song that'll get on your nerves
Get on your nerves
Get on your nerves
I know a song that'll get on your nerves
And this is how it goes

I know a song that'll get on your nerves
Get on your nerves
Get on your nerves
I know a song that'll get on your nerves
And this is how it goes

Don't mess with me, junior! :P

5. Memorable theme songs. TV shows don't have theme songs anymore,
just theme music.

6. A new Addams Family musical is opening in a few weeks
It will premiere in Chicago and then, they hope, move onto Broadway. Big stars: Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth (are they not perfect for it?).

I am not at all a fan of the Broadway musical ... but I had been thinking I might actually go to see this one, based only on my love for that old theme song. I'm not even sure if it's in it ... but how could it not be?

RIP, Mr. Mizzy. We'll never get that tune of yours out of our heads.

7. My favorite: Car 54, Where Are You?
There's a hold-up in the Bronx
Brooklyn's broken out in fights
There's a traffic jam in Harlem
that's backed up to Jackson Heights
There's a scout troop short a child
Krushchev's due at Idlewild
Car 54, where are you?

8. I loved both of those shows when I was a kid.
I think the theme songs were a huge part of their appeal, especially for the Addams Family.

His picture is in an old issue of Flair that I have. 1950. Featuring the college crowd.
i have a complete set of Flair. Way ahead of its time with printing techniques.
Published by Fleur Cowles. Lasted a year.

23. Yes, but he was in Car 54, Where Are You?
You have to be kinda old to know about that one, Officers Tooney and Muldoon.

Especially since the theme song talks about Idlewild Airport which is now JFK.

9. It's very sad to see the loss of the vaudeville-trained talent
We'll never have that again. And a tip of the hat to the Jewish community for providing so much great entertainment over the years - far more than your population would indicate. It's helped us get through some very difficult times.

18. Classic shows
and classic theme songs. Loved them both since I was a kid growing up in the 60's. I had no idea the same man wrote both songs. Quite a talent, in a wonderfully offbeat, quirky way.
