What's the point really , you would have hoped that over the years we in the grand old US of A would have progressed and become more aware of the insane acts and wars we have done , but no , here we are once again in a senseless war and guns in the hands of so many people and these laws that allow people to carry in public are simply insane .

We sell and profit from bombs , bullets and war machines as well as wage war without cause .

We should be ashamed and never prowd of this fact . We are one sick country with such a sick media all climbing all over this VT students with no consideration other than to get the damn story . But when it comes to this insane war , well then this is a different case , there is no real coverage .

1. Is there a point to this post?
I'm having trouble finding the theme, or question posed. It kinda rambles.

2. He's asking why the U.S. is so uncivilized and why we
have no problem making so much money selling death machines to each other and around the world. Why haven't we advanced as other nations have.

3. Because our culture is psychopathic
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 04:29 PM by undergroundpanther
Our culture erodes the very thing that makes us human and replaces it with consumerism.Consumerism cannot replace a community. And our government has systematically undone the attachments people had to kin and community, until all we are is scattered dust.Isolated individuals with gaping holes inside. We have the latest fashions plasma TV's and SUV's but how many of us cannot count past the ten fingers on our hands the number of people who we love and who love us and will help us with something more than words or a condolence card if tragedy strikes?

4. Every nation, short of a few tiny (and lucky) European countries, has the same...
the same problems we do, to varying degrees.

I just don't see America as the violent place others seem to think it is. Mass murders and school shootings have happened just about everywhere, even in Canada.

I think the vast VAST majority of this country is civilized, and safe. Most of the violence in this country takes place in the same blighted urban areas. People forget that according to statistics, this country is actually getting LESS violent than it was during the 70's and 80's.

Unfortunately, tragedies of yesterdays magnitude can make you forget all that.

6. You have to include the wars we start .
We are the ones who start the wars , who else has in the last 50 odd years other than Israel against Lebanon and we allowed that to continue .

8. I can't think of a single major player on the world stage,
including France, German, Italy, Britain, Russia, Japan, China, obviously us, who doesn't have some blood on their hands or a dark period in their recent history. Trying to claim that our country is particularly unique or culpable is willfull blindness.

It's part of being a world power. At some point bad stuff will happen that you are ultimately responsible for.

Just outta curiosity, can you name me a major country that is recently blameless in war or empire?

10. No , no one the US has not had their hands in .
Certainly the countries you mentioned all have blood on their hands , But the US is still involved with a little help from The UK .

As we continue on this path we are on , then we will involve many countries and have our world war .

Does it make the US right just because other countries have blood on their hands ? Are we justified with this attack on Iraq ? We are now hated more than ever before , not just by south america but world wide so we are the terrorist of the 21st century .

9. Wasn't most of the Early US populated by criminals deported from Britain, according to
a recent on-line encyclopedia of the Proceedings of the Old Bailey,

at a time when there was no organized London police force and
banishment to the colonies was the only criminal penalty short of death?

Could that be why there is less overall violence in Britain than in the
(Anglo) American community.

That and the Lowland Scots "culture of violence and dependency" which
prominent conservatives blame for having a bad influence on Southerners
and Blacks. I wonder if they're reading too much into things.
