1. Did she mention what they were?
That might help further discussion.

7. Legalized carrying concealed weapons.
Aside from presiding over a record number of executions, it was his biggest accomplishment as governor.

3. It's about time we stopped shying away from the gun controversy.
There are some things that cause alot of discord, even among Democrats, when they're discussed openly. But that doesn't mean we can hide them in a closet. Discussion about gun control, though not for the faint-hearted is the only way out of the nightmare we're in.

4. But...but...but...I keep having DUers tell me that crime drops when concealed carry

goes into effect.

Of course, that hasn't happened where I live, we keep breaking the all-time high murder records. And those murders 9 times out of 10 involve guns.

And apparently it hasn't happened in Texas, either.

And I hear things ain't so hot in Florida...(except for the weather in August...)

6. She specifically mentioned that
both Texas and Florida have seen crimes involving guns go up since they loosened gun restrictions.

12. I think the point is that CCW laws didn't cause a drop in crimes being commited
It's about the fact that there is not a relationship between CCW laws and violent crime rates. Not that CCW permit holders are committing crimes. The only reason that this is news worthy is due to the false claims that CCW permits would somehow reduce crime.

13. No but I listened yesterday where she said
the constitution does not give people the right to bear arms and that "arms" was not in the constitution.

and that the founding fathers were totally against rebellions

Thomas Jefferson "a little rebellion now and then is a good thing" for America

14. I agree with that
The second amendment gives you the right to be armed as part of a militia. Can't forget that militia part. :)

15. the 2nd amendment
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

nope....if that were the case the vast majority of americans would have been dis-armed in 1791 when the 2nd amendment was ratified. Very few americans were in the army or militia in 1791.

They needed to be able to call up a civilian army who were already armed so they could defend the new country.

the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

16. We can argue this for days
I disagree with you. The reason this amendment was added was because the country couldn't afford a standing army and the framers were afraid the British would invade, (which they did in 1812), so they decided to allow US citizens to form a militia and a militia needs to be armed. Hence, that "well-regulated militia" language.

This amendment is probably the most misunderstood and falsely interpreted. Support also swings back and forth. I remember second amendment arguments when I was a kid 40 years ago. So sooner or later, we will go back the other direction. Just give it time.
