10. DU has always been overwhelmingly white, and not racially diverse

When there was a gallery, we extrapolated from it on the assumption that the gallery was a representative sample (not necessarily a valid assumption, but anyway...)

Iirc, it was concluded back then that DU was about 90-95% white, so the 81% number is a vast improvement.

You might have gotten better results if you had not excluded one of the country's largest minority groups, African Americans.

"Hispanic" refers more commonly to shared language, not genetics. I live in an area with a large Mexican-American population. I would definitely not describe most of them as white. And for the record, Hispanic, Latino, and Chicano are aften used interchangably in American culture, but many people who self-identify as belonging to one of those groups will strongly not identify as belonging to either of the other two groups. For example, I used to live in an area with a large Puerto Rican population, and most of the folks I interacted with wanted to be referred to as Hispanic. But out here in Denver, I hear folks referring to themselves as either Latino or Chicano, and it often depends on where their family came from originially and/or how much white blood they claim/identify with in their ancestry.

I should have clarified that my perceptions of how people self-identify was based on my personal experience talking about race with people commonly referred to by others as Latino/Hispanic/Mexican-American/Chicano, and may not be indicative of all people who self-identify those ways. In reality, we are such a nation of mutts no single definition of anyone's heritage is all-encompassing of every individual life story and personal identity.

For example, I chose to identify as white in this poll b/c my mother's ancestry is northern European, my skin is white, and I was raised in white American culture. However, I could just have easily identified as Arab-American because my father was a first generation Arab-American, much of my extended family identifies as and continue Arab traditions in familial context, and my full-blood sister is very dark skinned.

Some people accept Hispanic, some don't. It would have been better to say something like, "Hispanic, Mexican-American, Puerto Rican or other Latino/a"

Just as by leaving out African American and only putting Africa, the OPer's choices probably skewed the results.
