Good piece in USA Today about Justice Stevens
If he does retire after this term (and he has earned it!), I hope President Obama replaces him with a SOLID liberal, no moderates please..

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/judicial/2009-10-18-stevens-supreme-court-justice_N.htm

One paragraph in the article still haunts us all:

"When the court's conservative majority in 2000 halted the Florida election recounts and helped George W. Bush to the White House over Al Gore, Stevens wrote, "Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law."

1. That paragraph will be taught to generations of law students
when the full effect of that horrible decision is known.

It is the worst catastrophe ever to befall this country.

Had they ordered a full recount, instead, Gore would have been president. The consortium of news agencies confirmed it several months later.
