Why does Chimp need AF1 to go 150 miles?
They could drive it every bit as fast and save a couple hundred thousand bucks.

46. As I look again, I think it's a 757 ... judging from the cockpit shape and tail size.
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 12:58 PM by TahitiNut
That makes more sense to me, since the 727 is pretty old for this usage.

12. Is he flying
in the "official" AF1, which is the 747? Any AF aircraft the President flies on is designated as "Air Force 1" regardless of what type of craft it is. The 747 would make no sense for this trip, but the AF does small "executive" jets as well.

15. C'mon Get With The Script...
He flies in...doing the infamous swoop around the campus. The plane is loaded with his cabinet, congresscritters, senators and, of course, Pickles.

Next is the motorcade around campus where he and his 500 gas-guzzling black SUVs will tie up traffic.

Next he shows up at the memorial service with that choir boy face...sits in the pews with that "reverant" look on his face and then comes the "healing"...words written by someone else and surely on the BIG TYPE so he can read it slooooooooowly. Then comes the group hugs...get the cameras ready...and the exit while the choir sings Glory Glory Hallelujah.

Finally, his assholiness rescrews up traffic that has been held at a standstill since he arrived in town...heads back to the airport where he circles town three more times at low level...photo op accomplished.

C'mon...this is a "moment"...we'll hear the corporate media attempt to channel every great speaker and thinker into a tool of their own corrupt culture.

Don't need much runway, fairly economical.

Better yet, he can stay in DC and leave the folks in VA some peace.

37. excuse me? Virginia loves him
Blacksburg is Bush Country (maybe not the university as much, but Western Virginia?) Kerry/Edwards pulled 34% of Montgomery County, Bush/Cheney at 65% . for all the talk about the liberals who let this happen, this is Bush Country, through and through.

George Bush got more votes in the town of Blacksburg, population 40,000 than in DC, population 500,000.

Hampton Roads
Richmond (central Va including Petersburg)
The Valley including Roanoke
NoVa
and the Mountain Empire-the far western part near Bristol and beyond

Completely and wholly apart and separate with the possible exception of Richmond and NoVa (DC) just because no one around here is away that any of the other parts exist.

Using AF1 is nuts.

I can see why he wouldn't want to spend 5 hours in a car, round trip.

I can only ASSume that his entourage would need a whole fleet of helos.

29. first off, it's closer to 260 miles than 150
in fact, googlemaps puts it at 264.

second off, as a DC resident, I can tell you what a pain in the ass it is anytime the President drives anywhere, in this case, they would have to shut down I-66 and I-81. not a fun thing to do. flying is the least hassle. and I would suspect he took a smaller jet than the 747.

40. Why doesn't he have an aircraft carrier transported inland
so he can fly in with his flightsuit with the giant crotch? He could have it disassembled and reassembled wherever he wants. This is all about photo-ops and making a big splash anyway. Why not go all out, since the costs of the Chimp's displacements aren't ever a factor with this administration?
