Take the quiz on Virginia gun laws!
http://crime.about.com/library/blgunquiz_wv.htm I know somebody posted this earlier somewhere, but I couldn't find it and thought it put the VA gun laws argument to rest.

1. That actually leads to a quiz about West Virginia gun laws, not Virginia...
still, eye-opening stuff, if it's all accurate.

2. I got a 90%. Apparently there are some restrictions on minors owning guns
but that's about it. It's like Virginia has no gun laws at all!

6. It's a bullshit quiz.
Gun dealers are required, BY LAW, to perform background checks on all firearm sales...even those that happen at gun shows.

8. Did the NRA tell you that?
The next time you go to a right wing gun website for talking points, maybe you should question their credibility

17. Is true Zanne,

You've been drinking too much from the Brady Campaign KOOL-AID bowl.

FFL holders (gun dealers) are required to do NICS checks on the guns they sell whether it is at their stores, gunshows, or kitchen tables. This is true in every state.

However in many states, person to person sales between residents (not FFLs) are permitted sell to one another as long as they know they are residents of the same state and the buyer is not prohibited by law to own a firearm. Residents are permitted to sell and buy firearms in small non-dealer amounts without background checks even if they buy a table at a gunshow. Thats the loophole anti-gunners talk about, but its really not a loophole at all.

20. Nobody's that naive..
The NRA and people of their ilk have so much power that those laws are seldom enforced. And you know it, so don't act like a schoolgirl.

21. Nice misogynistic slam there Zanne.

But truth be told, I wish more ATF agents were checking to make sure that FFLs were doing things properly.

11. Gun dealers, yes. But the schmuck that has a booth selling WW2
paraphanelia who also has a genuine Nazi officer's Luger, he's not a gun dealer and he can sell that critter. Without any background checks. Just a guy selling a weapon to another guy.

12. Schmuck
When was the last time a Nazi Officer luger was used in a crime in Virginia. If the weapon is authentic, it will cost you several big bills to buy it. Not the type of gun used by your ordinary 7-11 dealer stick up artists.

13. The point is, more than licensed gun dealers sell weapons at
gun shows. Legally. Without background checks. Including Authentic (replica) Nazi Officer Lugers (at only a fraction of the price!). Or whatever. THAT is what the loophole thing is all about.

18. Its true, but those individuals run the risk of being charges with a felony

If they sell too many guns. There's no hard and fast rule about how much reselling constitutes an illegitimate dealer, but they do arrest people from time to time.

3. West Virgina. It's a separate State from the one the shooting occurred in.
But for giggles:

2004 Election

Governor
Joe Manchin (D) 63.5% -- NRA "A+" Rating
Monty Warner (R) 34%

President
Bush 56%
Kerry 43%
