Annals of Failed Metaphors

In response to press reports saying that the health care reform train is leaving the station with President Obama at the wheel (or whatever you use to run a train), Michael Steele just told Fox to look out because he is "cow on the tracks." In other words, in addition to his other shortcomings, Steele is apparently unschooled on the history of train/cow confrontations, though I'm not sure it's a metaphor Democrats will necessarily want to dispute. Later, in a new strike in his on-going war with his own dignity, Steele pleaded for a "Rodney King moment" on health care.

Consequently, he and his anti-American Homelander cronies merit a Mass Outpouring of Pity.

6. I work on a railroad, and I've been on trains that have hit cows.
When you are running up on them you are hit with a mix of pity and anger at how fucking stupid and stubborn they are for not moving. Then there is a huge bang, a horrible mess, and a bunch of paperwork to fill out.

7. Video

I was an engineer for 31 years. Never hit a cow, but I sure mangled some trucks. Luckily, no injuries.

10. Was that Michael Steele staring blankly at that train?
What an idiot. The train barely bumped.

8. Gah. Mr. B is an engineer and has hit several deer, which is bad enough.

A moose, now...then you know there's trouble.

11. Deer are bad enough...
... with cows, if you know you've hit them, we're have to do paperwork about where, when, speed we were going, what happened, etc. about the collision. What makes it really bad is that sometimes the dead cow's body will uncouple the air and I have to go back among the carnage to find the uncoupled hose.

I'm a conductor for NS.

12. What a PAIN.
Mr. B was hired as a conductor a year and a half ago and just got certified as an engineer. He got on after working years in union construction. It's an amazing job -- everyone's interested in trains, and now I have so much more respect for the amount of hard, hard work it is.
