TPM: House Judiciary Committee to give Goodling immunity.
No more hiding behind the fifth. Testify, and testify truthfully and directly or your ass is going to jail. Period. This should be good. Must see TV.

House Panel to Vote on Immunity for Goodling
By Paul Kiel - April 17, 2007, 11:21 AM

That's a rather sudden development.

The House Judiciary Committee will meet tomorrow morning in order to vote on whether to offer former Justice Department official Monica Goodling immunity to prosecution. Goodling had indicated that she would plead the Fifth rather than testify.

Says Chairman John Conyers (D-MI):

"As the White House Liaison in the Department while the US Attorney firings were planned and carried out, Ms. Goodling clearly has much to contribute to the Committee's understanding of the surrounding circumstances... I am hopeful we can approve immunity so that we can schedule her to testify as soon as possible and begin to clear up the many inconsistencies and gaps surrounding this matter."

15. Yes. It's very misleading.
Perhaps Dr.Phool misread the original article but that's not even the title of the original. I think there's a pretty good chance that this will happen, but it's not a done deal as the subject line indicates.

It will end up that she contributes nothing -
she is a christian fascist. She will continue to protect the almighty - George W. Bush.

13. She doesn't really need to volunteer much. Most of the stuff is known - she'll
just put it in the record - as she is the direct connection to all.
They'll ask her "yes" and "no" questions to which they know the answer. It'll prove damaging just as well (see Scooter Libby)

Right about now, Pat Robertson is praying for God to smite Conyers.
Or for a hurricane to blow through DC.

6. Doesn't the full House vote on Immunity in order for it to be legal?
Anybody know if the votes are there?

This could make everything become a bit more interesting.

8. As I read it, they are going to VOTE ON whether to give her immunity.
Am I missing something -- you assume it's a done deal?

12. I think that if Conyers wants it. Conyers is gonna get it.
He's got the votes, and I'm pretty sure he's already talked it over with all the other Dems on the committee.

14. You're welcome to THINK what you want. Reporting it as a settled FACT is just not true.

16. She will be good - to be sure - but the key lies with the E-Mails
And maybe if we get lucky she will allude to E-Mails and give substance to subpoenas to follow. You see the problem with her coming to testify is that later it becomes 'she said, he said" for anyone who follows. However with the E-Mails it will be different. As sure as a signature, the heading lines on the E-mails will tell who was talking to who, when, and about what. As importantly they will show a clear pattern of obscuring their intent by removing it from public scrutiny behind the non-governmental web servers.

17. I hope they got a really meaty proffer
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 04:14 PM by Morgana LaFey
(Isn't that the term for a report of what she can and will "offer" in testimony in exchange for her immunity?)

I really have such mixed feelings about this, and probably about all immunity deals. I think that people who do wrong should be held accountable and "immunity" doesn't accomplish that. Sigh.

But IF she coughs it all up, smartly and succinctly and without any of those troubling memory lapses that are so common among Republicans, maybe I can handle this one.
