No one will ever know what prompted Victor's mother to stab his dad, or why his father chased her upstairs, shot her to death and then killed himself.

But had a resident in that community of townhomes heard the shots and called police when the violent confrontation occurred roughly a week ago, 5-month-old Victor would have been alive today.

Instead, the infant sat in his swing set for about five days, police said, with a "perfect view" of his mother dead in bed and his father, kneeling over her as if in prayer.

And with no one to tend to him, the little boy slowly died —- neglected, starving and dehydrated.
