LET'S ROLL!!!!!!
I am tired of waiting for someone to do SOMETHING...for SOMETHING to happen to restore any faith in this country.

The internet is a valuable weapon...let's use it. Please spread the word - drive during the day with your lights on to show the unity and numbers of those who oppose the evil in our government. We MUST show that WE are the majority!!!

Perhaps someone with some history and voice here will pick this up and run with it. Thanks.

5. OK
So does anyone have suggestions on how we can unite as a single voice and show the members of the current government that we have had enough?

4. You seem like your heart is in the right place.
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 10:40 AM by crispini
People often come to the internet thinking that there will be quick, cheap, and easy solutions here. Realistically, there are not any easy solutions. If you want to create change, get involved with a campaign. Block walk, knock on doors, talk to your neighbors, raise money, become a Democratic precinct chair, run for office yourself. Go to city council meetings. Support a presidential primary candidate. It takes energy and time, but those of us who are working hard each day enthusiastically welcome your participation.

The answer is not out here. The answer is in your heart, grasshopper. :P

Edit to add -- waiting for SOMEONE? *you* are SOMEONE. .....

6. BRAVO! No quick, easy tricks. Takes rolling up sleeves and diving into hard work
with the knowledge that it will take a lot of time and effort to make it good again.

Band aids and easy gestures are sorta like those yellow ribbon magnets wingers slap on their fenders. Makes one feel sorta better, but doesn't really put us any closer to making things REALLY better.

If writing a few LTTE or bringing some good, solid resources to discussions around the water cooler is more than someone can do, we are doomed. Democracy is NOT a spectator sport. The 'somebody' who ought to fix something is US. ;)

7. Howard Dean taught me that.
He said: If you're just voting in elections, you get a D. You have to be contributing your money or your time! Or running for office!

Well, of course, I couldn't bear to make a bad GRADE, now, could I!?

11. Thanks
I needed that! You cooler heads are prevailing. I just cannot believe how long we have endured this bullshit. I just feel like a victim, in the crosshairs of a massacre and not able to do anything about it.

Yes, we are the ones that have to do something. Hard work and faith that good will conquer evil is what is needed.

In the meantime, our country is dying. But let's all write letters to the editor.

12. Seriously, get off the internet and go to a local Democratic committee meeting or something.
That will help. I always feel a LOT better when I get out there and meet real people who are also doing their best to make the world a better place. It's great.

It's frustrating. I agree. Sometimes we all want nothing more than to yell at the top of our lungs and wave our magic wands and make the changes happen. Unfortunately the world just don't work that way. We have to put one foot in front of the other. In that way we climb mountains.

13. You put down the idea of writing letters to inform but thought turning car lights on was good?
:wtf:

Sorry if you don't wanna write a letter or two, or think that is lame. But, turning your car lights on? That says zilch.

Most of us here have been writing LTTE and Congress, and making calls to C-SPAN, emailing networks on TV, doing research in many, many places on many issues, writing, getting info and sources out to others, spreading truth and helping wake up the population. Many have been out in the streets. Most have been putting our money where our mouths are and supporting good candidates with cash AND volunteer work.

Get hold of you local DEM party headquarters and ask where they need assistance. Call your county and find out how to become a polling place judge to BE THERE and make sure elections are held fairly. Go door to door for you candidate when it gets on to election time.

Attend local school board meetings. Amazing the amount of shananigans that go on there in too many places! Help assure that education in your area really helps youngsters grow into people capable of critical thought and able to utilize resources to find the information they need to make good decisions.

Find out if you local library could use some volunteer labor. You might be amazed how much effort your local library staff is putting into meeting the silly requirments the junta and GOP put in place to thwart free exchange of information. They have a lot of new red tape to deal with and could possibly need help doing basic things. Let them know you appreciate how they are trying to defend all our rigths while facing federal agents trying to get info on what patrons are reading, looking at online. Give the library staff some support. They could use it. They are facing some real bullies in too many cities.

Make sure your local media/newspaper keep it fair and balanced. Blast 'em when they don't. Write to sponsors if the TV does not present accurate and meaningful content.

Volunteer to work with groups that help the homeless, kids, the elderly, vets, the infirm.

Get certified to register voters AND REGISTER VOTERS! Offer rides to polls on election days.

Stuff envelopes for a good candidate in your area. Host houseparties like the ones Howard Dean got started for DEM candidates and issues.

Get copies of important books and DVDs and donate them to libraries or organizations that can use them to help educate others on critical issues.

Help groups that send reading materials and incidentals to troops in Iraq. Find out if there is a support group for the families of troops and see what you can do to help out.

Offer to spend time mentoring or working a hot line for troubled teens. Visit a shut in who may thirst for some real news and a good chat from time to time. Some would like to keep up with the news, but failing eyes makes reading hard. Somebody would probably love to have you visit and help them keep informed.

Spell a caregiver who could use a break to go to the bookstore but can't leave a loved one unattended.

It ALL matters and it all adds up. Pick what you can do. Help where you can. DO GOOD.

Or, turn your car lights on... slap a yellow ribbon magnet on the fender and try to get a feel-good feeling for empty gestures.

Democracy is not a spectator sport. It takes action. And we can do it.

America is worth the effort.
