OMG! INSURERS ADMIT THEY CANNOT MANAGE HEALTHCARE******
Of course we've all been listening all day about how the insurance companies are greedy and have admitted to being so, admitted they have no intention of lowering rates, but they said a whole lot more than that!

BY INDICATING THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO RAISE RATES, THEY ARE ALSO ADMITTING THEY HAVE NO PLANS ON HOW TO LOWER MEDICAL COSTS! Isn't that supposed to be part of the plan? If they can't find a way to help us all lower the cost of healthcare, then of course rates will continue to rise.

BY INDICATING THAT THEY CANNOT MANAGE HEALTHCARE IN AN AFFORDABLE, COST EFFECTIVE WAY....

DIDN'T THEY JUST ADVOCATE THE SENSIBILITY FOR UNIVERSAL GOVERNMENT PLAN OF HEALTHCARE, instead of Health INSURANCE Reform?

Hello, Congress!!!!, Did you hear what they said????

1. Before new heathcare takes effect the insurance companies will screw the hell out of us.
I hear talk of 2013 before the changes take effect.

People will be denied coverage at an unbelievable rate.

2. Yeah, but they didn't think it would actually pass
They thought they paid enough people off to prevent it. Talk is cheap.

3. every time I look at a doctor bill
the number originally charged vs. what the insurance company actually pays is usually a lot lower, so they do have some large impact on lowering costs. My doctor for over a year wouldn't see patients who were on the health insurance plan I was on because they didn't feel the insurer was paying them enough.

as for the greed issue, health insurance pre-tax profit margins are on the low end versus other industry groups, under 6%, allowing the to effectively compete against non-profits where they exist thanks to size and operating efficiencies. health insurance costs go up faster than inflation due to actual health care costs going up much faster than inflation, which can be pinned on doctor and nurse shortages, high costs of education, baby boomers retiring, innovations which add layers of new costs and better outcomes, and inflation.
