Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 05:26 PM by Faryn Balyncd

The "pragmatist" theorists have been telling us for weeks that no matter how bad the Baucus Corporate Welfare/Rape the Middle Class bill is, even with no redeeming value, we must pass it out of committee or health reform dies.

Just pass it out of committee, and we can proceed with real reform without the corruptions of the Baucus bill.

So, now that the Frankenstein monster is finally out of committee, how do the "pragmatists" suggest we kill this abomination?

4. And do you have reason to trust Harry Reid to see that a decent bill results from the merger?

17. Like "progressives" don't take money from special interest.
LoL moderates will take their money and do whatever the want. "Progressives" want the ponies they paid for.

16. Passing Corporate Welfare is not exactly the kind of "heavy lifting" that will help Americans OR our

party.

And your recent thoughtful comments ("The stupid.", "It burns","LOL", "Read DU teh answer you seek is within" and "Or Rage against the machine while the moderates do the heavy lifting") do not exactly give re-assurance that you have plans to turn this abomination into real reform (which would require ignoring the bill and improving the Kennedy/Harkin committee bill).

20. Even the BEST Public Option Bill on the table (HR 3200)....
...STILL transfers Billions of Public Money to the For Profit Health Insurance Industry.
This is the one the "Centrists" are calling the "Good Bill".
The "merge" salvation is going to be wonderful if you call fucking the Working Class wonderful.

This is what we are allowed to beg for....crumbs, a "thin sliver" while the Health Insurance Industry rakes in Billions.

those who understand the reconciliation process, the rules of the Senate, etc.

22. The reality is: If we pass Corporate Welfare & destroy the middle class, we're screwed.
Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 10:02 PM by Faryn Balyncd

Once the American people realize that they are legally obligated to buy insurance whose rates will go through the roof, and that we have not offered them the right to buy in to Medicare, our party will be rejected.

And if we allow this to happen, we will have deserved it.

I fully realize the rules of the Senate, as we have set them.

But the sad truth seems to be, that those who have argued that we should let this abomination out of committee, (using the argument that we can change it), really don't seem anxious to change it.

Instead, it looks like they are happy to see this play out as a pure Bait & Switch.

If the supporters of letting this bill out of committee are serious about changing it, so that in merger there will be a true public plan, let's see them speak up.

7. The great majority of DU'ers know calling Baucus's bill "reform" will be our ruin.

This bill will destroy the middle class, and our party, if any significant portion of it becomes law.

25. I know of NO DU'ers who think the Baucus Bill is "reform" - everybody thinks it is a piece of crap.
I doubt much or any of it will survive. I don't know of any Democratic Senator other than that Conrad YOYO who has said anything positive about it either.

It is not the final bill.

24. you can try, but you won't
the baucus bill will be the primary outline of the final bill, especially since Obama has tied himself to Snowe. Some sort of illusionary trigger will be added for political purposes, they'll probably do a little more on penalties for not getting insurance and add restrictions to keep people from paying a penalty and suddenly buying insurance when they get diagnosed with something, and they have to tinker with "no caps" to prevent passing along costs if a person gets several million in benefits while paying less than $300k in premiums over a lifetime.
