Last night was a horrendous, gut -wrenching night for my friends
for those of us who have friends or Friends with kids at VA tech.

You have no idea what is like to dial your kids cell phone for hours without an answer.

You have no idea about the dread fear in answering the phone.

My friend's kid was in the classroom building where the massacre occurred. He got out and called home and left a message that he was ok.

But the message never got to his parents and then he dropped his cell phone somewhere as he went to the hospital and then the chapel and then....well he did not call again until he picked up his phone to see over 100 messages on his cell.

Please don't use this horrific event to take partisan shots at Bush or the GOP. He really has so very little to do with this and there is nothing...NOTHING so disrespectful to the parents of the dead and still unaccounted for than trying to score truly insignificant political points in the midst of such tragedy.

I am neither supporting or defending Bush. But the linkage is really off the mark here.

9/11 taught us.

I'm so glad your kid is okay.

What a world.

20. I do know. My nephew was in the adjacent building.
It was sooooooo good to finally hear his voice.
He survived.
He survived.
He survived.
What a relief for us.

How tragic for those who will never be able to finally make that call.
My deepest sympathy goes out to them.

4. You are absolutely right.
We have enough legitimate things to be angry with * about. No need to politicize this. It could have happened under any president, with or without the Second Amendment.

8. I agree
I'm all for blaming Bush when something is his fault, but to somehow link the shooting to this administration is a big stretch, and out of line. The people that do that are as bad as the "let's blame Clinton for everything" crowd.

9. Agree
I'm glad your friend's kid is okay.

I've completely given up any hope of making sense out of these shootings. Maybe it's because they are, in the true meaning of the word, SENSLESS

10. We are not the ones linking Bush to this. Bush himself is doing the linking
and yes your post is supporting and defending Bush.

13. People in NY had the same experience as the people in VA are having today
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 10:06 AM by Robbien
No one sanctimoneously said," Do Not Blame Bush for this. The NY people are going through a crisis so honor what they are going through and Do Not Blame Bush."

Bush is having the media calling him healer in chief and is going to go over there and get his picture taken.

People can discuss this however they want to discuss it. The discussion doesn't add or detract from what the people in VA are going through.

22. The claim that unless one wishes to use this tragedy as a club
to beat bush with then they are defending him is absolutely ludacris. It's the exact same mentality that the right used when Clinton was in office (and still have today, as a matter of fact). Bush had nothing to do with this shooting, just as Clinton had nothing to do with Columbine.

11. The cellphone thing has haunted me the most. I can't imagine the horror
of dialing my child and getting no answer.

What those parents would give to hear their child's voice on the other end of the phone.

My heart breaks for those people.

14. The atmosphere in Florida was similar in the early 1990s when Danny Rollings
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 10:18 AM by 1monster
was on his murder spree in Gainesville. The difference between then and now is that he spread his murders out over what seemed like a vast period of time and terror was a constant companion for students, parents, and friends until well after Rollings was caught.

My sympathies to you, your friends and to the entire community.

16. Saturday we spent the day
at Michigan State where my daughter will attend.

I can't stop equating the faces of those wonderful professors and students that welcomed us to MSU to those at Virginia Tech. One of the professors killed reminds me so much (in likeness) of one we met on Saturday.

I'm sure parents and friends of students away at university are feeling much the same; that loss of security, that fear that such a tragedy will strike them.

My heart goes out to all the parents, friends and loved ones of those murdered at VT.

are discussed to some degree.

I often use the Hide Thread feature.

You have no idea how it is to live on your roof while your city floods out. It took Bush a week to get down there.

21. I understand what you are saying but I have to take issue. Bush
and this maladministration of his (remember he promised to bring back honor and integrity to the White House on behalf of the "people") are responsible in some small way.

Lack of funds, National Guard deployed overseas (many of our "1st responders" typically relied upon), racism, fundamentalism, classism, you name it, Bush and his groupies are responsible.

to his own advantage.Reporters are even comparing this to 9-11 and calling Bush a "healer". While I respect the victims and the families, Bush and the MSM are disgusting.
