Reid protecting senators who join Republican filibuster
This came in my email this morning from FireDogLake:

At least one senator in the Democratic caucus is blocking a public option - but we don't know who. That's because Majority Leader Harry Reid is protecting any senator who wants to join a Republican filibuster of health care reform.

This isn't just wrong, it's deeply immoral. If a Democrat wants to filibuster a public option, make them do it in public.

Harry Reid can no longer allow members of the Democratic caucus to block a public option behind the closed doors of the Senate.

Sign our petition to Harry Reid: force the silent filibuster senators out into the open. It's time for a public count for the public option.

I signed and included a few choice words for the senator, but I'll leave it to you, dear and able readers of this board, to do your own writing.

11. I wonder how many even care to remove him.
I can't think of many senior Dem senators who seem to care all that much. Most seem pretty happy with the status quo. x(

As a constituent of yours, I am appalled to hear you are protecting the Senators who are planning to join the Republican filibuster of a health care reform bill. These bought and paid for legislators need to be called out and their committee assignments need to be reevaluated.

9. DONE WITH RELISH!! I've Asked The Question Many Times, I KNOW
I missed the "why" behind his step up to being a Speaker, but WHY?? Not only does he LOOK weak, even when trying to act tough... HE STILL LOOKS WEAK!!

I so wish there was a STRONG Democratic candidate, the likes of Grayson who could take his place!!!

29. Jack Reed from Rhode Island would be good
He is smart, liberal, knows a lot about the Senate and House and is not the chair of any Committees.

recognize that the special interests--not the people of the United States--have the power.

I don't really give a fucking damn if a repuke picks up his seat. If it removes him from the leadership of the party being -1 will be a +1000.

16. This is un-American of Reid. This stops US from replacing the holdout.
He knows that once the pitchforks and torches come to his door to force the information there is less energy and time to do the same to the guy we really want. It's the same kind of obstructionism King George would have pulled in the 1700's that caused us to separate in the first place.

UN-AMERICAN.

My message to the Senator:

I am absolutely appalled that you would protect Democrats that choose to join the Republican filibuster. You are a coward and a tool that lies down at every opportunity for the opposition. Either start acting like a real leader or get out of the way because the American people want change that you refuse to give them.

Anytime he leaves his office, BAM!, someone reading how much we think he sucks as a leader.

I would even volunteer to take a shift or two.

26. No, this is not what Maddow said.
Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 11:35 AM by Mass
Once again, she quoted anonymous power brokers on the left (Who?). She certainly did not name Reid or Durbin. As far as we know, it may be anybody. It was what these two people wanted. Nobody said the policy was adopted.

I have no clue whether Jane Hamsher's source is more valid than Maddow's, but certainly, people jumped the shark on Maddow's comment if they considered it was a done deal.

http://rawstory.com/2009/10/rachel-maddow-exclusive-cracking-heads-time-in-the-democratic-party/

"We can report exclusively tonight, that two major power brokers on the left have told MSNBC that they are encouraging a Senate strategy now, in which the leadership would revoke chairmanships and other leadership positions from any Democrat who sides with a Republican filibuster to block a vote on health reform," Maddow said.

It doesn't say he will join a Republican filibuster, though.

24. Contact the DSCC
Remind them that if a health care bill without a strong public option is not passed you will switch parties and support people who aren't afraid to take a stand.
If Harry Reid allows his members to participate in a Republican filibuster then the Democrats deserve to be replaced by ---------------- a dining room table.

Enough is enough. He has shown himself to be an incompetent and cowardly leader a hundred times over. Its time for Mr. Reid to go back to the rank and file.
