9. The Most "Trusted" Name In Snooze...

I used to watch CNN 24/7, now its rarely on my teevee...and Jon nailed why. It's hours of wasted electrons...a mutual masturbation society with the same talking heads saying the same things and in the end saying nothing. They don't report news, they don't investigate, they "analyize"...and then with the same usual suspects saying the most predictable things.

Their "anchors" have to be the most insipid ever to grace a studio. Wolfie is a total hack who blows the "conventional wisdom" as if its fact...never failing to miss a GOOP talking point...and he's the face of their network.

Kudos for Jon...the last bit with John Oliver and Asif Monvi really nails it.

25. That sketch really expressed my frustration well.

Time after time CNN and other broadcast news personalities interview Republicans whose policies bankrupted our country and destroyed our national security through their war profiteering, false wars of choice and financial deregulation, and let them to give advice to our Democratic president without any challenge.

The most recent egregious example was John King's asking McCain to advocate escalating our troop level in Afghanistan after he had been an advocate of turning away from Afghanistan to the war of choice on Iraq. That spot was then echoed by other media outlets as though McCain still had any credibility. It took a special column by Frank Rich to call him out.

The Daily Show also made such great points about CNN's odd little "balanced" discussions too-- 5 minute segments with Dems and Repubs talking in little 20-second sound bytes and then "we'll have to leave it there,"-- cutting things off when they were just getting going. Loved Jon's saying-- You've got 24-hours to talk about the news-- you don't have to leave it there!

I am so glad the CNN fact check of the SNL sketch gave The Daily show the perfect hook. A detailed fact check of a comedy sketch while buckets of Republican lies have been aired with nary a fact check in sight. Or just little snippets of Democratic opposition, cut off by a "we have to leave it there."

I have kept trying to peek back in at broadcast news and news chat shows over the years of Bush Gang rule and since our transition into Cleaning up the Wreckage but have been so frustrated by their lack of serious critiques of Republican policies that I turn them off again.

From watching most of the US news, with our major networks having been conglomerated into right wing hands, you'd think the Republicans didn't lose the last election. You'd think they didn't bankrupt our country. Thank goodness we have the Daily Show and our few token liberal news shows. I sure hope Rupert Murdoch doesn't get his hands on NBC.

I can watch Democracy Now! and PBS for actual news, or listen to NPR.

If something interesting happens on cable news I can generally find it on YouTube. But most of the time the reason those things are interesting is because of the bullshit not the information.
