Matt Lauer just said Bush will act as "Healer in Chief".
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 09:01 AM by Toucano
Like other presidents have had to heal the nation after a national tragedy, the duty now falls on Bush's shoulders.

As though this is the FIRST national tragedy in the Bush administration. Bush IS A NATIONAL TRAGEDY!

Matt, you ignorant slut.

12. No, sorry to confuse.
He didn't actually say it, but it was implied when Lauer said that other presidents have had to "heal the nation".

The implication was that Bush didn't have this role 50 times already.

19. Saw this starting yesterday
The first clue was CNN using the Late Breaking News banner to insert the "WH Statement: ..."

Bush is definitely going for another "9/11 moment" on this one; but the rest of Congress and the Presidential Candidates are too. It's a profoundly tragic event that happened to the community, and even more tragic is the way the politicians are 'just trying to help heal the nation.' :eyes: Check that...it's tragic the way the 24 hour cables are covering the politicians that are 'just trying to help heal the nation.'

Look, he shot more people than the freak at Luby's! Geeez, let's make it competitive. Media has a responsibility to the public and that responsibility is to not appeal to the insecure/unstable members of our populations' competitive nature.

26. Every Politican worth his mettle uses these tragedies for
their political purposes. What can they do, go and offer comfort to the students and parents and then go back to washington and kiss the asses of the gun lobby?

I don't know the answer to this question, but I would rather see a politican actually attempt to solve this problem and not use this as a "see I am a fucking compassionate gimp!"

30. There is a subtle point that we may be missing, here-
I presume everyone recalls the last two times there was an undercurrent and then a surge of "healing the nation" talk.

Significantly, I'm referring to the pardoning and blaming that supposedly healed something or other in the wake of Nixon/Watergate and Iran/Contra.

Keep i mind, also, the principle they used when accentuating the human cost and blame to distract from other parts of the conspiracy, as in allowing the CIA to skate on its almost single handed responsibility for the crack epidemic of the eighties and early nineties. The price in human anguish and suffering, as well as the direct and indirect costs in money and freedom, was staggering.

Expect some strong underhanded moves aimed at rescuing and rehabilitating of the bushco image and principals.

33. I have never voted for a presidential candidate with the expectation
that they would provide comfort in times of sorrow. Not in the job description as far as I'm concerned. But some of them do manage sincere expressions of their own grief which I guess some people find comforting. Others of them are so bad at it that I think it would be best if they didn't even try--especially the current Bozo-in-Chief.
