(CNN) – Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is dismissing Democratic campaigns to paint him as the man steering the Republican Party, and media frenzies over his most controversial comments.

"The media didn't make me, and they can't break me," he said in a portion of an NBC interview that aired Monday.

"I am not the leader of the Republican Party. Don't want to be the leader of the Republican Party," said Limbaugh. "It's silly for them to keep talking about how I'm the leader of anything, it's just creating more curiosity about me. It's 21 years, more popular than ever. Lord, thank you for my enemies."

In interview excerpts released by the network, Limbaugh said he had been moved by the election of the nation's first black president — "but I got over it pretty quickly."

8. The Media Kind of Did Make Him

I remember back in the late eighties, early ninties, just after the repeal of the fairness directive, how I'd try to find something to watch late at night, and during this period where there was nothing but ads and old reruns on, he was there, every night. I didn't really listen to the radio, but it even moreso,put his voice on air, repeatedly, even when he was losing money massively, in both efforts.

So, the media did make that asshole, and they didn't do it because they were making money, since they were losing money. They did it to begin this massive change in thinking that has overcome our world. They did it to drive out empathy, caring, and goodness, in our government. They did it to help maintain the attack on the poor in our society, and to trash the good, and lift up the bad. Rush is the face of evil, the devils' voice, with his gilded microphone, assuming there is a devil.

I think he is running scared of Glenn Beck's recent popularity with his most ardent fans and that accounts for his recent outrageous behavior and statements. Just watch him on media tapes of his radio show and public appearances. He is drugged out again and tries to one-up the crap that Beck puts out. I keep track of the rw wacko websites and believe me they all talk about Beck now and not Rush.

Used to be a common phrase when discussing the leading "lights" of hate radio: "limbaugh and vanity" or "limbaugh, vanity, and (fill in the blank here)." Now, it's "limbaugh and beck" or even "beck and limbaugh." I find pleasure in knowing that poor puffed-up sean has been shunted aside. Replaced! Worse yet, sometimes Not Even Mentioned!!! A has-been at 47, replaced by that idiotic anemic hyperventilating drama king.

I just realized it also means, in effect, that he got "Norvilled." Back when I was still working, the popular "Today Show" stalwart girl-next-door cohost Jane Pauley was replaced somewhat abruptly by a then-recently-added younger, blonder morning news reader, Deborah Norville. And that's what the press said about her - "younger and blonder." The latter-day version: he got becked.

So they screened audiences....and he still couldn't stay on the air.... the TV air.
