I think that we're starting a trend... Democrats are FINALLY getting UPPITY!

And I love it.

"Certainly from our standpoint, this gives us a sense of momentum — when the United States has accolades tossed its way, rather than shoes."

That's the take of Hillary Clinton's State Department on President Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, according to her spokesman, Assistant Secretary PJ Crowley.

Show me some civility, Republicans cried Friday after a Missouri congressman speaking on the House floor was caught on microphone apparently cussing out a fellow Missourian.

Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton, D-Mo., had just finished addressing his Republican colleague Todd Akin Thursday.

Skelton then turned to the side and muttered "stick it up your ass."

Barney Frank's "table" statement to the teabagger

Rep Alan Grayson

I'm sure that there have been more.

It's been building up to this for the last couple of months... It's about time.

27. Let me tell you about Skelton. That was most unusual of him.
He is a very conservative Democrat. Very pro-military. The base where the B1 bombers are based is in his district, which is largely rural and struggling in this crappy economy. He has been in office for what seems like forever and just last week a right wing nutcase announced he is running against Skelton because he is so "liberal".

So what he said was very brave indeed. I applaud him for his courage.

45. I'm from that district, originally,
and let me tell you, Ike has a following there. Back in the day, the whole area was terrified that the fort was going to be closed, but according to the local populace, Skelton not only kept that from happening but shunted military training jobs to their base.

I've never been a big fan of Skelton's voting record, considering he votes more with the Pubbies than with the Dems, but when it comes to the true well-being of his district he knows what should be done and he does it.

Skelton has job security. My entire extended family (a good 50% of that county ;)) will be dead before they see Ike removed from office.

48. Bill Stouffer
I knew I recognized that name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Stouffer

He's a state senator, and douchey one at that. But the thing that pisses me off is:
'He is a member, and has served as chairman of the board of MFA, Inc., from 1979 through 1995.'
Not good. MFA has been HUGE in that area, and being Chairman during that time means he has A LOT of connections. In fact, I think I might even have seen him once, as a kid.

He's also problematic as a church-going farmer. A lot of people in that area will identify well with that.

But even so, like I said before, Ike knows how to serve his district well. Plus, with this latest outburst, he may just have made the people of MO-4 laugh rather than blanch. Between the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality and the fact that Ike has such a loyal following, I think he'll be OK.

So Skelton actually tries to represent the people who elected him? That's fabulous! Truly great. People can criticize him all they want, but I think it's great that he hasn't forgotten about his constituency. More Reps. should be like him.

I'm weary to the bone with their wimpage. So sick of it that I feel like just giving up on them. Alan Grayson is showing passion in a time when it's truly needed. He's like that child that pointed out that the emperor wasn't wearing any clothes. What the obstructionist Republicans are doing is so fucking obvious and it needs to be pointed out and shouted down.

Reward the defenders of the American Way and the truth speakers. Let the mousey ones see that kissing ass is NOT the road to success.

If you have spare coin, send it along to GOOD DEMS. And suggest the strategy to others. If you can't afford monetary campaign donations, donate time and your skills to build better campaign organizations.

Show the corporate sponsors of tea bagging extravaganzas what grass roots REALLY means. Anybody who gardens knows grass roots are formidable opponents. Be the force for real change. Build a liberal army in legislative branches in all states and a bigger, tougher one in D.C.

12. I think a lot of people have realized what they are dealing with
A logical mind, after 4 years of Bush would have realized the mistake, after an additional 4 years there was no excuse. Then when there was no acknowledgment of the fact that the Repubs really screwed things up people realized the only way to get through to them was to mock them. Michael Moore is doing it using religion. (see Hannity interview) He is stripping everything away from so called religious people. It is harsh but unfortunately needed.

31. Centrism never meant being in the center anyway
Centrism and bipartisanship has come to mean agreeing with Republicans and even when Democrats agree with Republicans, the bastards and the MSM still give them shit for being "liberals". Perhaps they've finally decided that since they're going to be called leftists and partisans anyway then they may as well be leftists. And I agree, it's about damned time. Had the Overton window moved much further to the right we'd have been completely indistinguishable from Saudi Arabia.

65. What? He says "republic Party"??? He actually does? I hadn't heard that!
Daaaayummmmm!!!

You know, the bad guys have been fucking with our party's name for just WAY too long! And I have HAD ENOUGH.

My suggestion has always been - as long as they keep doing it, OUR side should start showing them how it feels to be on the receiving end of such shit. Taste of their own medicine. See how they like it. (After all, see what being nice and patient and tolerant and trying to overlook it and ignoring it and not making an issue about it has accomplished so far?) I myself like "republi-CON party (because all they offer is a CON job)." I'd go even further and start fucking with the individual names of the republi-CONS. Like that leader guy of theirs - john BONER. Yes. I know how it's spelled and how he pronounces it. FUCK THAT. He routinely says "Democrat Party," and "Democrat this" and "Democrat that." So he's fair game. So is michele bushman or bitchman or whatever (spelling phonetically here so the suggested pronunciation is clear). virginia fucks. mitch mcCON - 'cause that's what he IS. eric can't (instead of cantor - how do you suppose he'd like having his last syllable cut off in public all the time? )

But "republic party" will do just fine! And from a member of Congress no less! Hey, at least it's a start! I say we get MEAN. Besides, it'll throw them off their game - they're not used to having anybody stand up and fight back, much less kick them in the teeth.

55. Strategy - back up convictions with $$$
I just sent Alan Grayson's reelection campaign a donation with a note thanking him for his spine. I live in Florida, but not in his district. By the same token, I constantly receive calls from the DEC, the DNC, the Florida DEC, the DSCC, and every other Democratic fundraising organization. In the past, I've been pretty generous with them, but my message is now, "as long as you channel my donations to blue dogs who don't represent my beliefs, you will not receive another nickel from me. I'll direct donations where I see fit to do so."

I've left a number of messages to Bill Nelson's office, but I suspect my messages don't hold the same weight as Humana's checkbook, which got me wondering...

Would it be possible to create a fundraising organization to collect enough cash to replace the corporate donations to buy back the support of reps and senators like Nelson with the understanding that in order to take the 'people's' money, he'd have to turn down the corporate dollars? Sounds like a pipedream, but short of changing a self-perpetuating system, can we compete?

57. I agree with you mostly
But it's a shame that standing up to losers, morons, and punks is referred to as being "uppity".

69. "Never explain, but never complain." Richard J. Daley
The former Mayor of Chicago and father of the present mayor never apologized to anyone for anything he said, but never whined about anything anyone else ever said either. It is said that he borrowed the quote from his friend Joseph P. Kennedy.

70. Yes, Finally
I credit Grayson for opening the floodgates, he deserves supreme kudos. Now all this, and one of the most important I think is Dylan Ratigan on MSNBC, he is not mincing words at all, he is stridently calling out the robber barons every weekday morning.

Hopefully more and more progressives will see that it's OK to speak real unadulterated truth. It's going to take much more of this to have the light bulb go off for enough Americans.
