Poll question: Have you or anyone at home had swine flu yet?
How long did it last and what did you feel like?

1. No, but just heard that my niece may have it
She came home for the weekend from college and has the flu. Swine flu has (supposedly) been around her college. So, the family party plans that was supposed to take place this weekend got dramatically changed, just in case.

it was all over this area then (they closed the middle and high school because the students were sick) and we just had another death this week.

but I'm pretty sure I had a mild case, sore throat started, then body aches, fever etc for about 5 days then so hope I have some immunity now

5. My brother, his girlfriend and her kids had it.
This was 3 months ago. They described it as a mild case of the flu.

9. Strange. They don't randomly test people with any mild symptoms
The cost is too expensive and the labs are backed up.
Strange that they would test an entire family that had mild flu symptoms.

15. They didn't test with moderate symptoms either
nephews had it and Children's did not. Classified it as Swine Flu Like syndrome... the technical name.

Oh and I got a very mild case, we think, mostly from history of exposure... was told to take it easy, liquids the usual and just to call back if it did not get any better,

7. Hubby and I had a flu in August that may have been H1N1
Since a co-worker's child was confirmed with it a week before hubby brought it home and shared it with me. It was a typical sore throat, nasal congestion, low fever sort of flu for the first three or four days, but then it went to moderate lung congestion that hung on for a month. Not terrible, just enough that we'd start coughing if we stirred things up much.

Fortunately neither of us had anything more come of it, but a number of people here in town have ended up hospitalized for weeks before their lungs cleared up.

13. My grandson is a student on a campus in NC. His roommate got it and had to
go home til well.
My grandson had to traverse the campus with a face mask for 24 hours. Thank goodness we raised him with healthy self respect, he did not care, nor did he get sick.

14. I'm going with Possibly Yes...
Got nailed with some funk at the AFL-CIO convention in Pittsburgh. Initially thought it was a sinus infection. But after a few days of feeling like total crap and reading other folks' description of their own illness, I believe I did have a mild case of "the flu" - constant runny nose, chest cough, aches in the upper body (I usually get the aches and pains through my hips and back, but not this time) - don't know about any fever, if I did, it was low-grade. Apparently a lot of folks at the convention got nailed. I haven't had the flu in at least 4 or 5 years, and as an adult, have rarely been sick, period. I just don't get anything beyond the occasional sinus infection, which is seasonal.

And I've had the same lingering cough/slight congestion that another poster just discussed.

I honestly don't know if it was Swine Flu, but whatever it was had no characteristics of the traditional flu, or a normal cold, or a sinus infection, at least none that I've ever experienced, and as a kid, I would get nailed every year with bronchitis and the flu, period. It was some kind of hybrid of the 3, is the best I can say. I could function, but was so glad to finally be in bed every night. And I wasn't stuffy - my nose just ran like a damn faucet, really unusual. and everyone I'm working with on the Va Gov campaign has either had something similar or is getting it now.

BTW, if you live in Va - please vote on Nov 3 for Creigh Deeds. Please.

wasn't much fun. 10% of NYers had it already it seems to be states that haven't had bad outbreaks yet getting hit now.
