SAN FRANCISCO — Pentagon statistics obtained by University of California researchers show that women are far more likely than men to be kicked out of the military under the "don't ask, don't tell policy" banning openly gay servicemembers.

Every military branch dismissed a disproportionate number of women in 2008 under the policy banning openly gay servicemembers. But the discrepancy was particularly marked in the Air Force, where women were a majority of those let go under the policy, even though they made up only 20 percent of personnel.

Across the military, women represented about one-third of the 619 people discharged based on sexual orientation. They account for just 15 percent of servicemembers.

The data was released Thursday by the Palm Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Discrimination breads more discrimination...

12. It was sarcasm
Sorry, I forget that due to a few knuckledraggers in the board, the use of the :sarcasm: tag is nearly mandatory, lest someone mistake me for one of them.

3. Makes perfect sense.
If women don't submit to sexual harassment they get labeled a lesbo. No amount of denying gets them off the queer hook. Afterall, what real woman wouldn't want to have sex with a superior officer or male equal if they want you to. Easy enough to understand.

7. So, if you do not submit to sexual harassment then you must
be a lesbian. The thought being that any straight woman would not pass up the chance to sleep with a superior officer or male of equal rank. I did not know that a woman in the Navy gave up her right to say no. Taking this to the next level. Then if one of these superior officers or male of equal rank were to force the point, the female is in essence coerced into submitting. I believe this could fall under the Conduct unbecoming an officer.

4. Uhh yeah. Duh
The very first gay witch hunts in the navy before don't ask was on the first ship that tried integrating.

Not a coincidence.

5. Shhhh.
Most everyone here at DU thinks that before DADT there were either no gay folk in the military or they were allowed to serve openly. They think that problems for us queers began with DADT. Gay military history is only 16 years old.

Don't upset them - they are napping.

10. Not so
In the early 1950's about 25 men were discharged from the Navy for homosexual activity from the USS Kearsarge CV-33

11. What percentages are gay and lesbian?
Fifteen percent women, but how manny of that number are lesbian? And how many of the other eighty-five are gay?
