Would the state opt-out help turn red states blue?
Looking down the road at this hypothetical situation, once a PO was proven successful in larger, more progressive states, couldn't this become an issue in red state gubernatorial, senate and congressional races, as constituents there continue to get reamed by insurance companies, thanks to their GOP "leadership?"

Speculating how this may play out electorally...

1. Would businesses refuse to move to such states?

3. It would polarize them even more since the spinmeisters would manage to blame Obama
And the Democrats for not covering everyone, even if the state Republican politicians were the ones to opt out of a health care system. I know damn well that is what would happen here in Florida. We won't get health care, given our current state government. And given that many of the state news outlets are right wing, many of the people would be lead to believe that Obama planned it that way.

It's a lose, lose proposition - many people in the most needy areas will not be covered and they will have more resentment against the Democratic Party.

4. They would just blame Democrats for their misery
Seriously, a Republican could walk up and smack the holy shit out of someone in certain parts of my state and they would find a way to blame the Democrats.

5. We might see lawsuits.
States like Mississippi will probably opt out because the whites won't want to see black people benefit from the public option. Leaving this decision up to the states will hurt minorities, many of whom need the care the most.

6. Don't Give Away The Ulterior Motive Here & Let The Repugs Catch On To The Ploy......
of course the PO would be successful and those states that opted out will be upset with their Repug Gov or Legislature and will wind up moving toward Dem rule in order to get the health care they deserve.

This is the plan. Let the Repugs shoot themselves in the foot on this and make them the cause of turning Red states Blue.

Now that this is out - they probably won't support this 'opt-out' plan and you know what - we'll have to start the debate all over again. Next time - it will be single-payer Medicare for all.

Come on you Repugs - I dare you!!!!!!
